1. I have been very off the airwaves lately. Life seems very full and busy and I'm tired all the time. I would say I'm looking forward to spring, but with the seasons the way they are, who knows when that might be!

2. On the bright side, I have a holiday booked for the end of April - a week in the Norfolk Broads. We're all getting together as a family to celebrate my Dad's 65th, which is that week, and we figured that end April/early May was just as likely (or not likely) to be warm and sunny as July/August, so why not, since we're no longer tied to school holidays.

3. Aunty Marj's funeral went well. Everyone was given a long-stemmed rose to take home, because Marj used to say that flowers are for the living, not the dead. It's still going strong, a week later. I wasn't too sad at the funeral until I talked to Aunty Marion, my granddad's youngest sister. Marion grew up with 9 brothers and sisters and now the only one left is Ivy, who is riddled with dementia. Marion was so very close to Marj, all their lives. It's hit her hard.

4. In happier news, my Aunty Lel (actual aunt, rather than great-aunt like the above) is now making real progress at last, after three weeks in intensive care. She had the tracheostomy taken out of her throat on Wednesday, but they haven't stitched up the hole, only covered it up with gauze, so she has to put her fingers over the hole if she wants to talk. The trouble with that is that she does like to wave her hands around when she talks, so keeps forgetting and letting go and suddenly her voice disappears and she's got weird breathy noises coming from her neck! One day she will be back home and well and we will be laughing about the time she used to fart through her throat...

5. I have too many projects on the go. I can't decide which to focus on!

6. I am very sad that Leverage was cancelled. I really loved that show and the characters. The finale was fantastic, though.

7. Season 8 of Supernatural has me almost on the verge of breaking up with the show. I'm very sad about that, too, because I loved that show so very much, once upon a time, but it just isn't what it used to be.

8. Have just completed an epic re-watch of HBO's Rome. Still stunning. And an epic re-watch of Firefly. Still so much love.

9. Am currently re-watching Game of Thrones season 1. I can follow the various storylines so much more clearly second time around, now that I know who all the characters are. I got so confused the first time, I couldn't keep track of anyone!

10. Also still watching and re-watching Classic Doctor Who like whoa. Because who needs free time, anyway?

11. Went to see The Hobbit and thoroughly enjoyed it. It kills me that Gandalf spends the entire film counting dwarfs, like an exasperated schoolteacher leading a field trip. Also re-watched The Fellowship of the Ring and found myself wondering what it might have been like if instead of three films, the trilogy had been adapted into a TV series, like Game of Thrones...

12. Am no longer seeing Mr Boyfriend - not as a boyfriend, anyway, we're still hanging out as friends. Mutual agreement. He's really nice and all, but that spark just wasn't there - I like him, but I don't fancy him. I think we both feel much happier now we've had that conversation.

1. So glad your aunt is doing better. *hugs* Do you already know when she will be released from the hospital?

2. ROFL what projects do you have, besides the Who epic you're writing at the moment?

3. I am sad to see Leverage go as well, but at least it went out strong and while it was on a high. The writing in S5 showed slight signs of fatigue - the casefiles were a tad over-the-top - so I think it was a good time for the show to come to a close. And the finale was wonderful; so many throwbacks to the beginning of the show and it gave a real sense of closure. The characters changed so much over the years, and I loved where they ended up. ♥

4. I am sad about Supernatural as well. I might have to break my promise to stay with these boys till the very end. But what's the point, if they don't feel like my boys anymore. :( I'll give the writers till the end of S8. If it doesn't improve drastically, I am out, not least to protect the love I have for these characters and the show.

5. I approve of your TV rewatching list! Rome, Firefly and Game of Thrones are all very rewatch-worthy. I think I have to do a rewatch of the first two as well in the near future.

6. Sad to hear that things between you and Lyndon didn't work out. I hope you two will at least be able to enjoy the friendship you struck up during the last couple of months! :)

1. No idea. Now that she's out of intensive care she's improving much faster than she did last time, but she hasn't been given any kind of time frame, so it's very much play by ear still. It's just a relief to be able to visit and have her know that we're there and chatter away like her normal self (apart from the farting through the neck thing!)

2. Well, there's the epic fic, currently standing at 54 pages at the start of chapter 4. Other fic concepts sitting in a WIP folder waiting to see if they'll ever be written. I've got 2/3 Who reviews on the go. I've been collecting screencaps for an art-ish project I'm working on that's a long way off seeing the light of day. And then there are my neglected former fandom projects wondering if I'll ever turn my attention in their direction again...

3. Objectively, I'm glad Leverage ended when and as it did, before it could start tumbling downhill the way SN currently is. I'm still going to miss it, though.

4. Still tossing up whether or not to continue SN after the hiatus. Part of me says no, because my emotional connection has completely evaporated this season. But part of me says yes, because whenever a new download comes up, I do still feel the urge to see it. We'll see. In some ways, total emotional detachment makes it much easier to watch the decline, but I also don't want to completely kill my love for the early seasons.

6. I'm actually relieved rather than sad. We were having fun hanging out, which we still will, but I wasn't feeling any urge to spend more time with him, and some of his OCD habits were already driving me up the wall, so - it's definitely for the best.

Also much cheaper to go on holiday during term time! We've always been tied when we wanted to all gather together for a family holiday, because Big Sis was a teacher and Small Sis was still in school. But now that Big Sis no longer teaches for health reasons, and Small Sis is now out of school at last - term time family gathering holiday, here we come!

My aunt has had some kind of e-coli infection that went to her lungs and kidneys, causing acute respiratory distress syndrome, which was what kept her in intensive care for so long (three weeks of respiratory support via intubation and tracheostomy). But she also has a lot of long-standing health problems that make her intensely vulnerable to any kind of infection. She's been terribly frail ever since her last serious illness 2 years ago, when she developed some super-rare bacterial infection called nocardia that caused six huge abscesses to develop in her brain, so this was absolutely the last thing she needed. I'm just really glad she seems so much better already, now that she's out of intensive care at last - hopefully she'll continue to recover quickly now. :)

I'm glad to hear your Aunty Lel is doing better.

Rome is wonderful, isn't it? I need to watch it again. I've just started to watch Game of Thrones for the first time, and I'm enjoying it a lot--though as you say, deeply confusing on the first go.

Thanks :)

I watched Game of Thrones for the first time when [livejournal.com profile] galathea_snb and [livejournal.com profile] nikkimisplaced were staying with me the summer before last - they were both huge fans and we marathoned the entire show in a couple of evenings during the week. It was an intense experience, but watching at that pace I had absolutely no idea who anyone was or what was happening! It really is so much easier to follow the second time around.

I can imagine! I've been watching at the slower rate of one episode per evening and I still have no idea who anyone is! It's exciting though. I like the scrappy little girl with the sword.

Stick 'em with the pointy end! That's Arya - she popped up in the very spooky The Secret of Crickley Hall just before Christmas, as well.

It was the Winterfell boyband I found hardest to keep track of first time round - Robb and Jon and Theon, they all look so alike I could never work out which was which for the longest time! And there are so many supporting players, it wasn't until this second run-through that I realised how big a part some of them play, I was too busy trying to keep the main players straight in my head!

I knew I recognised her from somewhere! That's where--thank you for clearing it up. I enjoyed The Secret of Crickley Hall, it was very spooky.

I can't tell those three apart either--I've worked out Jon now because he's at the wall at the bit I'm watching, but the other are lost on me. I'm also confused by the queen and all her blond relations! Too many of them.

I'm so sorry to hear about your great-aunt! :( Glad to hear your other aunt is doing better now though! *hug*

And omg lol, I spent so much of s1 of GoT confused and wishing everyone would just wear nametags, but I imagine that it would be much easier to follow things a second-time around, and even more so now that I'm reading the books. I'm actually kind of jonesing for a s1 rewatch now that I've read so far, and know so much of the crap that will go down for these poor characters--I want to see how it all used to be!

12. Sorry to hear there was no spark, but if this is what works best for you, I'm glad you can still be friends without awkwardness.
