bobbies on the beat
Sep. 3rd, 2014 09:03 amI have never seen so many police patrols in my life. They're everywhere!
And, I mean, I even knew how many extra police had been drafted in for this week - we've got half of them staying in our Halls of Residence, driving the network team mad because they said they wouldn't need internet connectivity and then at the last minute decided, oh yes, actually they do. But knowing the number and seeing them all out on the street are very different things. It's like that Hitchcock film The Birds where every time you look out of the window there are more birds, only in this case it's police. Every time I venture into the centre this week there are more police. Police on foot, police on horseback, police in vans, police on motorcycles. You can't go 20 yards without running into more of them, and there's never just one - they run in packs.
There's a heavy police guard on the castle. Cardiff Castle hasn't had an armed guard at the door since the middle ages! Richard de Clare and the 3rd Marquis of Bute would be proud.
Madness.
