So yesterday I was going about my business, potting on this lovely fuchsia that I won in a raffle at work

when I discovered this little guy hiding out in a dark corner of my garden

Now, I don't know where he came from - my house is not near to any bodies of water - but I do know that my garden, open and sunny and patrolled by cats and frequented by birds as it is, is not a suitable environment for a frog. So I set about catching the poor little thing, which was easier said than done (I got him into an old plastic plant pot in the end, with another wedged over the top as a lid) and then took him for a nice long walk, through Llandaff village and out past the Cathedral to the river, where I set him free.

And long may he live.

Honestly, the things we do!

That there are folk like you who would go the extra mile (literally!) for small creatures makes me absurdly happy :D

Well, I couldn't just leave him there. He had to be repatriated with a suitable environment!

I wonder if a neighbour has a garden pond?

A few years ago we were sitting in our library at home listening to the occasional *thump* *thump thump* noises. Baffling indeed! We concluded that it was too loud for a mouse; too quiet for a rat; not enough scuffle scuffle for either... and apparently coming from the bottom of a large cardboard box. In fear and trepidation Himself approached the box... looked... scratched his head... reached in - and lifted out a very small frog! We have never been able to work out what a tiny frog was doing thumping around in a cardboard box in our house, nor how it got there. There is a very small river nearby, but I don't normally associate frogs with running water. It was a couple of weeks before either of us remembered that Mr Next Door has a small pond in his front garden. Which probably explains the 'where', if not the 'how' and '*why*'!

I can't imagine where he came from, or how long he'd been there - but if my garden experiences a sudden upswing in slug population I shall be sad about removing him! He's better off on the riverbank than in my garden, though, so I shall just have to cope.
