The die is cast and lo! I am moving.

Well, in a few weeks, anyway. I viewed a flat yesterday that's pretty much ideal - not quite as central as I'd hoped for (I'm going to have to get used to the buses for my daily commute!), but bigger than I'd dared imagine I might find for what I can afford to pay: the whole ground floor of a large house, so that's bedroom, two reception rooms, a really big bathroom and a larger kitchen than I've ever had. Enough space that I'll be able to take most of my furniture with me. Nice area, lots of storage space, garden (shared with the upstairs flat via fire escape but not really used, so it'll essentially be all mine), the landlord allows pets...it pretty much ticked all the boxes. So today I toddled along to the estate agent and put down my agency holding fee, now they'll have to take up references and credit checks and whatnot, but if all goes well I'll get the keys on 23 September and move sometime shortly afterward!

I'm a bit concerned about leaving my parents in the lurch when they don't have a buyer lined up for the house, but they agreed that I can't afford to let this flat slip through my fingers, and they have a few options to play with. I worry about them, they worry about me, that's how it goes!

So much to organise now!

That's so great you were able to find such a perfect flat for your needs, congrats! :) Good luck with the move and everything, and hope your parents find a buyer soon...when you say you are leaving them in the lurch, do you mean in that they need your rent money in lieu of getting sale money from that house for the time being to purchase their new house? Or are they still paying off that old house? (Idk how long are mortgages in the UK generally?)

Thanks. And yes, my rent money is paying the bulk of the mortgage they took out to buy the second house - they raided their pension fund for the deposit, and the mortgage is interest-only for the first 5 years (there's flexibility, they can extend that period if need be). So they're currently paying off the interest, then the sale of the house will pay off the capital and that needs to happen before my dad retires (which he could do at any point now, he's 65 but choosing to carry on working). They paid off the old house years ago, so this was a completely new mortgage for the new one.

Hey, and on top of it all it sounds as if your new flat can easily hold a visitor as well. *g* I am happy you found something so suitable. :)

*G* That thought had occurred to me - I'll have to see what furniture I can get in there, of course, visitors will probably find themselves sleeping on the futon or sofa rather than a comfy bed or bed settee...

It sounds perfect - particularly the bit about pets! You may find a buyer pops up easier when the house is empty and ready to be occupied - fingers crossed anyway.

Well, we had another house viewing today, so fingers crossed!

I just hope all the references are okay - I mean, I know they will be, but I'm a bit worried because of my fixed term contract expiring in just a few months, they might not like that. There's nothing I can do about it, though. What will be, will be!

When I get in there, you betcha! I'll have to take loads of before pics, so that when everything is finally in place (you know, in about 5 years time when I get around to unpacking that last box...) the contrast can be seen!

I am so happy you were able to take your time and find a good flat that will fit you. It would have been miserable for the house to sell first and you have to scramble. It is a shame you wont be able to walk to places like before, but hopefully the bus rides will be convenient. *hugs* It is great you will be moving in early fall rather than the heat of summer. Although upon second thought, with the weather this year, who knows what you might get. *crossing fingers*

Best wishes to your parents finding a seller! I hope it is not that guy who keeps putting in the low ball offers. Hopefully it will be a young family who will love the house and make wonderful memories in it like your family did for so long. Thank you for sharing those with us!
