On Tuesday I mentioned that my cousin Sarah had just given birth to her first child, a baby girl. It turns out that baby Chloe has a serious heart defect and has to be moved to a specialist hospital in Bristol for surgery. She's got two holes in her heart and the pulmonary artery is too small to pump enough blood to the lungs. :( Poor little mite, she's not even two days old yet. Please pray for baby Chloe and for her parents, Sarah and Will, and grandparents, Peter and Pat.

The really ironic thing is that Sarah is a cardiac nurse.

My heart goes out to your family and Chloe.

The really ironic thing is that Sarah is a cardiac nurse.

I've found so many instances of "coincidences" like this in our experience that it makes me wonder.

So sorry to hear this, I hope all goes well. I understand that the Bristol Hospital now has a very good record on ops like this.
One of the four babies born in our family this year was born with an exomphalos (where some of the internal organs are outside the body) which the parents knew about from the first scan. There was also the possibility of other conditions. But the little lad survived his first three months in PICU (only just pulling through at times, there have been some real crises), has been home for nearly four and is now seven months old and a real character. He still has a feeding tube and a tracheotomy because of problems with his larynx so needs a lot of care but still with us! Again, ironically, his mum is a senior occupational therapist!
Little Ansel should be having an op to close his exomphalos (now much shrunken)quite soon, but is likely to need the trachy until he is at least two. The whole family are learning signing, as he will not be able to speak much, including his five-year old brother whose tender care of him is a joy to behold.
We all have much to be grateful for that these conditions can be identified at an early stage and hopefully treated successfully, hopefully including your cousin's little girl. As the granny of a beautiful seven week old little girl I feel for them all.

Oh my goodness, how horrible. Poor Chloe, and poor Sarah, because although on the one hand she'll be able to detect medical bullshit at a thousand paces, she also knows exactly what her baby's chances of recovery are.

Thinking of you.
