summer hols
Aug. 14th, 2012 09:52 pmI'm now well and truly into week two of my glorious fortnight off work, and glorious it is, too - well, some of the time. The sun has been interspersed with rain, but such is the Great British Summer. I'm having a wonderfully relaxing time, which is the main thing. Work has been pretty intense over the past year and a half - well, what with Colleague #1 going off on maternity leave and then Colleague #2 resigning to go to Australia and not being replaced, I spent most of last year doing three jobs, and then no sooner had Colleague #1 returned to work than she disappeared off for another few weeks to have her gall bladder out, and then no sooner had she returned from that than she decided to take a fortnight off!
So it is my turn to have a really good break and I have spent most of it being very lazy and doing a lot of writing that may or may not ever see the light of day. Fantastic.
I have also spent it being slightly accident prone, for some reason. I had quite a nasty fall one day last week and I have no idea how it happened. I was crossing the road when my feet just went from under me and I went down smack on my knees, which are now bright yellow with bruises and quite painful still. Weird. Then yesterday I was getting out of the car after my dad gave me a lift home, when The Not-So-Small One called after me, so I turned back to see what she wanted, misjudged the manoeuvre completely and smacked my head against the rim of the car. So I now have a nice lump just above my eyebrow to go with the yellow knees!
Big Sis is usually the accident prone family member, not me. Fingers crossed there is no third incident to round off the other two!
In Other News, I spent most of last week rodent-sitting these guys:
Riley

Roxy

and Pansy

The good news is that all three survived their week in my spare room and were safely handed back to The Not-So-Small One. The bad news is that all three now associate me with food, and whereas in the past I could visit and say hello to them and be completely ignored, now when I visit and say hello to them, they look to see what I've got for them! I don't know, you caretake a few rodents for a few days and they expect you to feed them forever more...
In Other News, we caught The Not-So-Small One smoking yesterday. While she was out with a friend. Who has a baby. Leaving aside the cigarette issue for a moment, how did she get big enough to have friends who have children of their own? Scary! The girl is getting all growed up. In bad ways as well as good ways.
