Did anyone else catch the Beeb's dramatisation of Shakespeare's Richard II on Saturday night? It was very well done - gorgeous locations, beautiful direction and a fabulous cast (including David Suchet, Patrick Stewart, Lindsay Duncan and James Purefoy) whose performances really brought that unwieldy dialogue to life. Richard's deposition scene dragged on a bit, perhaps, but such is the play. No one does costume drama like the Beeb! I'm now looking forward to Henry IV Part One on Saturday.

I haven't seen Richard II yet but it's on my (very short) 'to watch' list.. thanks for reminding me. Ooh yes and HenryIVi, one of my very favourites. I know Tom Hiddleston is much adored in fandomland, but I'm rather looking forward to Joe Armstrong as Hotspur. I loved him as Allan-a-Dale in Robin Hood :)

Eh, I'm not watching for Tom Hiddleston - he's pretty enough, I'll grant you, but Jeremy Irons and the two Armstrongs are more of a draw for me! It's the story I'm watching for, though.

Oh yes, me too. It's the first one I ever learned great lumps of (all girls' school, guess who played Prince Hal *g*). And the first one I ever 'studied', with that wonderful being who I wish for all students, the Inspirational English Teacher :D

Ooh Jeremny Irons is in this Henry IV adaptation too?! So many great actors, lol...this is the one with Michelle Dockery too, yes?

(If you like Jeremy Irons you really should check out The Borgias...;))

I watched half of it, then found my attention wandering. I am terrible at only concenrating on one thing when I am at home - this is not the best way to follow Shakespeare!

About halfway through you'd have hit Richard's deposition, which did drag on forever, but the pace picked up again afterward. I watched on iPlayer, so was able to watch in instalments - I'm not the best at concentrating for over 2 hours, either! But it was very well made, I thought the cast, director and production team did an excellent job.

Yeah, I did see the desposition. I suspect that's were it bagan to lose me. It certainly was well made, but like all the Chinese wuxia DVDs I have, I need to be in the right frame of mind to commit to it.

Fabulous. The guy playing Richard was incredibly otherworldly. I was dead impressed. And while I am looking forward to the Henrys, I am still so passionately passionate about the Roger Allam Globe version of those 2 plays, I'm not gasping. But otoh, if Hiddleston's going to be giving it a whack ...
