jubilee weekend
Jun. 2nd, 2012 08:44 amSo, today we are celebrating Queen Elizabeth II's diamond jubilee - 60 years on the throne. The extra bank holiday and lovely long weekend is much appreciated, although last weekend would have worked out better than this one, weather-wise!
I've found some old family photos from 1952 - including a couple of the coronation street party my dad's family were part of! (Dad is the wee little dwt, the smallest of the little lads in the last two pics)

And my mum's family in 1952! (Mum is the babe in arms!)

I'd love to give it a go, but the family pics I have from over here are of people I never knew, which is a slightly different thing. I love the way it shows the continuity of memories and families and loves though...

Date: 2012-06-06 10:23 am (UTC)I love my collection of family photos. Even the picture of people I never met are full of associations, although of course it helps that there are still people alive able to tell stories about at least some of them, to give additional context. But even those about whom I know nothing beyond their place in the family tree, just being able to trace that connection from them to me is enough to give the pictures meaning. Plus, tracing resemblances from generation to generation is never not fun!
