Attached to the building where I work there is a small garage, which the more energetic among our staff members use to store their bikes after cycling to work. The door of this garage is quite elderly, so cyclists store their bikes there at their own risk, but it suffices and is secured with a sturdy padlock.
At lunchtime today, a member of staff noticed that a car had pulled up on the hardcourt outside the garage and some men were gathered around the door acting suspiciously - they drove away when challenged. It turned out that they'd used a pair of bolt cutters to cut the padlock off the door. On a main road in broad daylight! They didn't gain access to the garage, because they were chased away before they could get the door open, but still, the sheer effrontery of it beggars belief. Plus it's caused a lot of work - my team deals with facilities and security issues, so I've had to order a replacement suited padlock, borrow a temporary replacement, make arrangements for the key to be held centrally until the suited replacement arrives, write up an incident report...
Broad daylight. Who goes around with bolt cutters trying to break into buildings on main roads in broad daylight?
Madness. It's all madness.

And we'll have my Simon icon again, because it fits the occasion so perfectly. You've seen Firefly, right?
