Deb had another MRI scan on Saturday; we're now waiting on the results. She saw an opthalmologist last week and was prescribed £350 worth of new lenses - she has no peripheral vision in her left eye any more and can barely see at all out of the right; this is damage caused by the pressure on the brain, which remains undiagnosed. No idea if the visual impairment is temporary or permanent at this stage. She still can't walk straight or smell anything, and keeps getting silly things muddled. The neuro consultant she saw the other week suggested possible diagnoses including a viral infection causing encephalitis, or even a mild stroke. Hopefully the MRI will provide some answers - although the last one didn't. Can't believe this is still dragging on with no end in sight.
In other news, Deb and Ray are having to close down their climbing wall at Bluewater. The Big Blue Rock has been there since before Bluewater was the shopping centre it is now, and has been a flagship for the centre for as long as we've known Ray - he's owned that business for over a decade. They have won awards for their dedication to youth employment - they are one of the leading employers of young people in Kent, taking on 14-17 year olds and providing them with valuable training and experience. They are one of the few climbing walls willing to allow disabled persons to climb. They run a climbing club for school age children and have group bookings and parties booked for months in advance. They've just taken on a new manager with stacks of experience and enthusiasm, looking to continue to build the business for the future. Yet Bluewater have decided to close them down with barely a month's notice because they want to expand the seating in their foodhall. It stinks.

Also, fingers crossed for your sister finally getting some news. That must be so scary for her (and the rest of you...).

Date: 2012-03-22 11:21 pm (UTC)That is ridiculous, such a shame that the climbing wall has to be closed. Hopefully they could find somewhere else to run it from. Less than a month's notice is rubbish. Urgh.
