My home PC died last night. I turned it on and it was fine, but then I left the room and when I came back it was completely dead. Doornail. Won't boot up at all. Goodness only knows what's wrong. Maybe the starter, maybe something else. I am so not technically minded enough to diagnose this problem. So I need to get my brother over to take a look (what on earth would I do if I didn't have him?) but he works funny shifts, so goodness only knows when that's likely to be.
*le sigh*

Date: 2012-01-10 11:26 am (UTC)I had to do a complete reboot with the recovery disk that came with the laptop when I bought it, which meant that the hard drive was wiped completely. And guess who hadn't backed anything up for almost a year...?
Fingers crossed that you won't need to take such drastic action (or that you're more conscientious about backing up than me!)

Date: 2012-01-10 11:32 am (UTC)The good news is that (a) it's quite likely just the power supply that's blown - easy to replace, minor expense, and all your data is safe, and (b)technical-minded brothers FTW! Mine is frequently a godsend.
