A detective just phoned to give me an update on the investigation into my burglary the other week. The update is basically that there hasn't been much progress. There was very little material evidence, which I already knew, but they did get good, consistent descriptions from several neighbours which they have matched to CCTV footage from the pub opposite. That's all very good and positive. The problem is that they can't locate the man, who goes by a nickname; the pub landlord doesn't know his real name. But the detective wanted me to know that they are still working on the case and said she'll ring again with another update in a week or two.

Well, that's something, I suppose. I got the impression when she visited me the day after the burglary that she was expecting to simply close the case in a week or two because of lack of evidence, so it's nice to know there has been at least some investigation and that said investigation is continuing still.

In other news, I've been having a bit of a binge on ebay's vintage fine jewellery section, from which I might have to ban myself again - but hopefully my insurance will come through soon, to justify the expenditure...*G*

They may not have the person's real name, but it sounds like they know who it is. That's *something*. I sure wish they would find your stuff at a pawnshop or something - If you could just get that jewelry back the rest of it wouldn't be so awful... :-( Have *you* gone around to the pawnshops in the area? The cops may be doing it, but it's far more likely you'd see your stuff if they had it as you are familiar with it.

I've been round them all a bunch of times, yes. And my cousin is the manager of the local Cash Generator store, so I was able to tell him the full story and give him a description of my stuff. He said he'd look out for it and ask around. But there's been no sign. If I could just get my aunt's necklace back, I'd be satisfied just with that. Her husband bought her that necklace when she miscarried their only child, who would have been the same age as me, which was why I was named after her - when she died, her husband gave me the necklace because he said it was the most special thing he could think of for me to have, because I was her namesake, the baby she'd never had. I've always treasured it for her sake and now it's gone. :(

I've had a binge on ebay, picking up bits and pieces that look pretty and/or interesting, in a bid to make myself feel less cross about my stuff that was stolen. But nothing I buy for myself can ever be as special as that necklace that I inherited, or all the other bits and pieces that I was given for birthdays and Christmases. I just hope they find the bastard in the end.

...I also hope my insurance comes through soon to pay for that ebay binge!

Well at least it sounds like they have some clue, good luck!

Aye, the little PC chap who came out on the night of the burglar seemed to recognise the description given by the neighbours - he thought he had an idea who it might be based on that. And the detective who called last night said they'd matched the description to CCTV footage, although this chap isn't described as a suspect at this stage, merely someone they'd like to question. Whether or not they'll ever actually find him (or my stuff) though is another matter entirely. I'm torn between keeping my fingers crossed and not wanting to get my hopes up.

Sounds like they're working on it, you know - in fact every time I've had dealings with the police, they really do seem to have been trying to find the villain, and I remember my aunt (whose first husband was in the police) telling me that actually they do often recover stolen goods, but because people have claimed on the insurance it's often not reclaimed and ends up being stored for ages before being sold on in auction... (that was how I found out my "friend" had never even reported my laptop in with the rest of the stuff when her place was burgled, and again the police were helpful in finding out what had happened there, too...). So I'm still crossing my fingers that they'll a) get the guy; and/or b) be able to track his usual haunts/fences etc...

Last time I was burgled I never heard from the police again, so I wasn't terribly optimistic about hearing from them this time - I'm very glad to know they are still investigating, though! I would dearly love to get my aunt's necklace back, if nothing else, although I'm not letting myself get too hopeful about that.

I'm surprised the police officer called back. I'm keeping hope alive! *hugs*
