Bloody fucking hell.

My house was burgled tonight. I went to see my Aunty Lel after work, as she's home from hospital now but still pretty much housebound so appreciates visitors. I got home at about 7.15pm to find the back door kicked in and the house ransacked. The TV's gone and most of my jewellery, most of which wasn't worth anything and I don't care about, except the bastard took the necklace I inherited from my Aunty Joan who I was named after, which was the most precious thing I owned and now it's gone.

The cats are absolutely frantic and wouldn't even come in the house at first. I had police here half the evening, taking my statement and going door to door down the street - turns out, the bastard went down the whole street looking for opportunities. Several people saw him - he went down the row, trying doors and peering in windows only to be scared off by residents who were home, until he struck lucky at my house which was empty.

My parents and Chel came round to sit with me while the police were here and Dad has temporarily secured the back door.

Tomorrow I have to wait in for SOCO to come looking for fingerprints and whatnot. In the meantime I can't touch anything - which means I can't sleep in my bed because it's got stuff scattered all over it, like the jewellery box that's had its contents emptied. I have to carefully step over the muddy footprints on the kitchen floor. At least the police have a description and those witnesses also mean they have an approximate time - he was seen around 6pm or just after, so couldn't have long gone when I got home. The one officer reckoned he had a fair idea who it might have been, based on the description, so maybe if we strike lucky with fingerprints they'll be able to nail him. They also recommended visiting local jewellers and cash generator shops tomorrow to see if anyone's been in trying to sell my stuff - it's probably the only chance I'll have of getting my necklace back. It's the only thing I care about.

I feel sick just thinking about it. How am I going to sleep tonight?

Oh damn! :( I am so sorry, hon. *hugs* And that after you've been burgled in your old flat as well. It must be absolutely devastating. I wished I could do something. I hope they catch the bastard and you get your necklace back. Can't you spend the night at your parents house?

I can't believe it's happened again. :( My parents did offer to have me stay over theirs or for one of them to stay with me, but I'm actually better on my own, chance to process. Being in the house doesn't scare me - I think it'll be like last time, when it was going out and coming home again that bothered me in case I found the place turned over again. Who says lightning doesn't strike twice?

At least Poppy has calmed down now we're alone and can cwtch.

Well, as long as you feel safe at home, that's something I guess. And probably better for Poppy and Alfie, too, so they can calm down with your familiar presence in the house. Still, you've got some really bad luck, hon. *hugs*

I live in a soap opera, there's always some drama or another :(

The cats are really jittery still. I mean, Poppy's always skittish, but even Alfie's jumping at shadows and that's not like him at all. They're really spooked, my poor babies.

I think you should write down your experiences and make a book someday, there's certainly enough drama! O_o

I hope they catch the crook, fast, and all your things are returned to you! Theft is such a violation and with such little reward to the cowardly vandal, what possesses people to do such things?... argh! *shakes fist*

I'm glad you're okay & the cats are too.

How horrible for you, I'm so sorry :( Such a violation, of all sorts of things. Really hope they catch the guy and that your treasured necklace can somehow be retrieved. Here's wishing you and the pussycats peace and good luck.

Oh how horrible! I'm so sorry. I've never been burgled myself (although I've had cars broken into), but my parents have (not as badly as this though) and I know how traumatic it is.

At least they have some idea of who it might be, that's more than they usually seem to have.

That's a horrid thing, I'm so sorry, and I hope you were able to sleep a bit and that today won't be too bad... At least it sounds like there's a chance of catching the guy, and if they do that they might be able to trace what he stole, if he doesn't still have it...

If it doesn't happen straight away, it's apparently worth checking with the police every now and then over the next several months to ask if they've recovered anything for your crime number yet, because apparently (from my uncle, who was in the police) there are rooms full of things recovered from various crimes that are never claimed, because people sort things out with the insurance and sort of assume that nothing will be found - but it often is, albeit not immediately. My aunt told me this after I'd had something stolen, and I called the police to check as advised and they were really helpful, so... *crosses fingers for your necklace especially*

I'm SO sorry this happened to you, luv! It seems to be happening all over the world these days, and it's LOUSY stinking WRONG, no doubt about it. I hope you keep a can of Mace or Pepper Spray in your personal gear for the protection part, but I don't know how to lift the fear out and help you to feel safe again. I think that just takes time and survival skills . . . and lots of love from friends all round the world, of course!

Hugs and hugs and more hugs,
Daphnis Dimwit

I am so sorry to hear this Jo. It must be terrible knowing someone has been in your home uninvited and done this. I hope the Police catch them and lock them away for a long time. Thank goodness your cats are OK. Hope you get the necklace back.

Take care.

I'm so sorry to hear about this Jo! I know it was a while ago now but forgive me for being slow - I still wanted to comment on this.

I can't imagine how you must have felt coming home to a house like that - not even thinking about the fact that something was taken, but just the fact that someone, a stranger, was in your house touching your stuff! It's a horrible thought and I'm so sorry you had to go through this :(

Have you been able to look for your necklace anywhere, like the police suggested?
