Holiday picspam the second!

Okay, so on day two of our week together, [livejournal.com profile] galathea_snb, [livejournal.com profile] nikkimisplaced and I took the Small One with us for a trip up to the Brecon Beacons mountain range in Powys. Our first stop along the road was a brief pitstop at the Beacons Reservoir, just because - pretty!

We then headed on to the waterfall my family has always been so fond of at Craig Cerrig-gleisiad (I believe it is called), just beyond the Storey Arms Outdoor Education Centre. I've posted pictures taken at this spot before, but I'm going to post more now, because, again - pretty!

We climbed up

And up

And up

And up

Following the course of the waterfall as it trickles its way back downhill

The view across the valley is stunning from way up there

And then, having climbed all the way up, we were faced with the long scramble back down in search of food, which we eventually found at a rather lovely little inn on the road to Sennybridge.

Our next stop was the pretty little market town of Brecon, where we had a quick glance at the castle

And a look around the cathedral

Before heading off in search of another mountain to climb. This time we parked at Storey Arms for a clamber on the hillside directly opposite, Craig-y-Fro, I believe it is called. We found another stream whose path we could follow up the hillside

And more pretty, pretty views

Plus rather a lot of sheep

We managed to wear the Small One out completely, to the point where she gave up on the climb and curled up on the grass to go to sleep!

But she did wake up long enough to take a nice photo of the three of us together

And that was day two of Chris and Nikki's visit - I'll be back soon with the next instalment!

Oh god, you posted a photo of the three of us. What possessed you? LOL We did rather a lot of climbing that day. I (almost) miss it. ;)

Hey, we agreed that the group photo was acceptable for public consumption. I distinctly remember the conversation. :P I've been very good and not posted any other pics of either you or Nikki, although there are some lovely ones that I'd love to post!

We did climb rather a lot that day!

Proof that all three of us were actually there and we didn't make the whole thing up!

Aww, beautiful pictures, such lovely countryside! :) Is this still all in South Wales? And nice picture at the end of the three of you! ;)

Technically still South Wales, yes, although getting close to mid-Wales at this point - this spot is just over an hour's drive north of Cardiff.

Okay just checking it wasn't North Wales! ;)

Nah, you really can't do North Wales as a day trip from Cardiff - there aren't any decent through roads, so it takes hours to get up there! Either have to go into England to find a motorway or take the pretty but slow little country lanes up through the mountains. :)

So pretty. I envy all the climbing and walking and freedom to do outdoor things and then GOING OUT TO EAT (can you tell I'm a little tired of adhering to a toddler's schedule?).

she gave up on the climb and curled up on the grass to go to sleep!

Ahh, that picture made me smile. Taking a nap in a wide-open field on the side of a hill sounds wonderful. You picked Small back up on your way down from the hill, yes? ;)

Heee! Tempting though it was to leave her there, I suspect my mother might have had something to say about it if we hadn't taken her home again! *G*

Just wait until T is old enough to start taking on proper outings - you'll have so much fun! You shouldn't envy us the week of eating out too much, though, 'cause it isn't good for the waistline...*G*

*nods* Right now that seems a long way off and separated by the dreaded "terrible twos". But, yes, I look forward to the day we'll be able to go to a place where I won't have carry her or strap her into her stroller or to worry about her darting off to get into some sort of disaster when she is put down on her own two feet.

I remember when Chel was the age T is now, we used to take her to country parks and the like, since that's the kind of outing we've always liked as a family, start as you mean to go on and all that. And at one/two she insisted on walking, hated being in the pushchair - she walked miles around Westonbirt Arboretum when she was just twelve months old! Slowly, but steadfastly, and absolutely loved it (we had one of those kiddie leashes for her). Then as soon as she'd outgrown the pushchair, she wanted it back and decided that she hated walking after all!

Gosh, look at all the up! Much as I do like that Cambs. is mostly flat and therefore effortless, I do miss seeing hills around. The blue sky over the reservoirs is gorgeous too - looks like a fab day!

We had gorgeous weather at the start of the week - lots of blue skies and sunshine. It got progressively greyer and damper as the week progressed, though.

More beautiful photos! What lovely countryside. And a hell of a lot of up! But absolutely stunning and looks well worth the effort. Great photo of you guys too :D

There was no end of up! Every time we thought we'd got to the top, all we found was more up! And that was on a kiddie slope, rather than a serious mountain...
