Poppy was with me at the time (plus has never caught anything in her life - Alfie has form) - plus I watched him bring it into the house and toss it around! No, he definitely gets the blame. His first kill. The dead pigeon he brought home one time doesn't count as I strongly suspect he found it already dead. But this was a wee little baby - not even a fledgling - that had fallen out of the nest. He'd bitten into it, too, which he doesn't usually do. Maybe he'll start to get the taste for meat now!
He still isn't anything like the hunter his brothers are. They bring home fresh kills all the time. I should count myself lucky that Alfie's sum total is one dead pigeon, one dead baby sparrow, a live fledgling and a live mouse!
His first kill. He's brought home a couple of live things in the past, plus he did find a dead pigeon once, but this is the first time he's managed to kill something - and only because it was such a young baby that had fallen from the nest and was helpless, I suspect, poor little thing. He isn't anything like the hunter his brothers are, for which I count myself very lucky!
Poor baby bird - Alfie is starting to get the hang of catching them now, we had another one tonight! I preferred it when neither of my cats could catch a thing!
We had another dead baby bird tonight - Alfie's getting his eye in, apparently. I much preferred it when neither of my cats was capable of catching a thing!
Sorry about the birdie . . . . .the ways of the world are not easy to live with, unfortunately. Will add its tiny soul to the list of those I make prayers for; you are on there as well, as are just about all the people I know through LJ and Bookface and so on.
My cat Kiki was on my kitchen threshold with a still alive and whining sparrow between her teeth, too. Couldn't do anything for the sparrow, it was too late. My cat is a serial killer of birds!
Bonkers Cat managed an adult male blackbird the other week. You'd think the birds would have more sense than to sit there listening to the noise of a collar bell while a cat approaches - but apparently not. He has since managed to lose his collar.
Indeed. Bonkers lost one collar so I bought another one. After a couple of weeks of successful wearing of the second one I attached the ID tag we were given when he was chipped. So then he lost that collar. Deep in the fir tree I spied something gleaming... Thomas went in and discovered collar no.1. So I put that on Bonkers... who promptly lost it again. Collar no.2 has so far not turned up. I'm more annoyed about the ID tag than the collar.
