Apr. 16th, 2011 09:14 pmI've spent most of the last two days at the hospital hanging around the critical care unit. My aunty Lel is very seriously ill - she had a cyst in her neck that turned septic and it's been a bit of a rollercoaster ride from there over the last fortnight, pretty much, but especially the last couple of days, when she really started to go downhill. The infection she has is incredibly rare - the hospital have never seen it before, no clue how she managed that - and she is allergic to penicillin, so finding the right treatment is proving difficult. It is into her bloodstream now. She also has infection on her lungs - pneumonia - and now they've found what look like abcesses in her brain. She is on a ventilator and her daughter, my cousin V, is in bits. We've got family descending from left, right and centre - I've got three extra people staying with me tonight. Taking shifts sitting with her, just talking to her and massaging her arms and legs to keep the blood flowing. And we're just taking one day at a time. It's a waiting game. Just keeping fingers and toes crossed that she responds well to treatment and recovers.
