Happy birthday to my lovely Mum, who was born 60 years ago today. :)


Last weekend we had a joint birthday celebration for Mum and for Deb, whose birthday was last Friday. Deb, Ray and Shanei came down to Cardiff for the weekend - D&R stayed with me; Shanei stayed with Mum and Dad because she and Chelsea are inseparable when they are in the same town. We had a nice weekend - went out for a family meal on Saturday, taking Nan and Aunty Lel with us as well, then took the dogs for a walk around Cosmeston Lake, then had a very small impromptu tea party in the evening with a few more relatives dropping in. It was all kept very low key as Deb was feeling a bit fragile (she's just had another miscarriage) and didn't want to have too many people around. The proper family gathering for Mum's 60th will be tonight.

D&R brought with them on this visit the birthday present Ray had got for Deb - a staffordshire bull terrier by the name of Amber. They had been told she was 3 years old, but their vet reckons she is no more than 18 months and I've got to say I'd agree with that assessment. She is definitely very much a baby still. The cats were horrified about having a dog in the house, but although very inquisitive she didn't bother them too much, which helped them to relax a little - they were very glad to see the back of her when she left, though!


Chel and Nei got a bit stressed out over the weekend together and melted down a couple of times - two troubled and hormonal teenage girls under one roof, it's only to be expected! Chel is a diva and Nei a drama queen, and although they love each other, they really don't understand each other. Chel has been going through an especially challenging phase lately, and Nei has problems of her own...and as for me, I had very limited tolerance for teenage histrionics even when I was a teenager, never mind now! But after all those ups and downs, the girls were all smiles and sunshine by the time the Kent contingent headed home...having made plans for a much longer visit in August. I'll have to start preparing the cats for that one now, I think!

It was my Dad's 60th yesterday too!

I haven't seen him yet, but apparently he was inundated with 'haha you're 60' type presents. My presents are taking on an 'old git' theme.

The staffy is sweet. Is she a cross? Her nose shape doesn't quite look typically staffy-like.

We had pretty much that exact conversation! They were told that she was purebred staffy, but then again they were also told that she was 3 years old and she clearly isn't, so we're thinking that most of the info they were given was duff. She does look a lot more like a cross than a purebred, but the chances of ever finding out for sure seem pretty unlikely. So...she's just a dog!
