Work continues busy, now that I am being Sarah as well as myself. Items on my workload currently include: business continuity (about to be audited), equality and diversity, enrolment review, health and safety (also about to be audited), facilities management, plus planning an Open Forum for the Directorate in the summer. My to-do list is going critical!

On the bright side, however, baby Holly is doing extremely well - up to 4lb6oz now. She will be 4 weeks old tomorrow and might even be discharged from hospital this weekend, she is doing so well - although she is still over a month from her due date!

Edit: coming home from hospital this afternoon, in fact! Sarah is jubilant - best wishes to the little family :)

In other news, I am quite worried today about my cousin and his family in Tokyo. The devastation in Japan is horrendous. :( I just hope that Stephen, Yuki and the children are okay and clear of the worst of the earthquake damaage.

Edit again: this is the value of Facebook. I never, ever post on mine, but it allows me to keep in touch with far-flung relatives and know that they are okay if an earthquake strikes! Stephen has posted to say that it was bad and they are shaken, but they are all okay and away from the worst. Big relief.

I'm still quite philosophical about the extra workload - I think my boss will have a nervous breakdown before I do! *G*

Ooh, pretty pretty! What a gorgeous little lady Holly is turning out to be - and to be coming home so soon as well! Congratulations to Sarah and to Holly's dad.

That workload sounds seriously scary. Any point telling you not to try to do too much? Didn't think so.. :)

I'm managing to stay fairly philosophical about the workload so far, just ploughing through it as best I can. Boss is pretty stressed out, though.

She looks great! \o/
I'm so glad anything is turning for better with her!

And, wow! That looks like a full to-do list! /o\. I hope you won't get too stressed.

The baby is doing incredibly well, given how premature she was.

I'm being philosophical about work. Only way to handle it. Boss can have all the stress. I just plod along, do as much as I can without worrying if I can't do it all!

Oh Heavens. I've just been watching video footage of the damage caused by the earthquake and resulting tsunami. Apparently, Tokyo is largely spared (so far) and also, according to one commentator, "the tsunami wave has transgressed". I think he meant it had moved sideways, but I much prefer the literal translation :)

I've been getting very anxious, watching coverage on the BBC website, but thank goodness for the internet - Stephen has posted on Facebook to say that they are shaken but okay. :)

Phew - that's good to hear. Will he be able to bring his family to the UK for a bit?

I think they are more likely to stay where they are and see it through there - he says there isn't too much damage in their area, mostly just broken windows and fallen roof tiles. They are just outside Tokyo (S teaches English at the uni), so were clearly very lucky! Auntie Ruth says it is the first time in all the years he's been over there that he actually picked up the phone to let her know he was okay - usually when something happens she has to ring to check up on him. Today he phoned to tell her he was okay before she'd even seen the news! But it took time for that message to filter through to the rest of the family - Facebook was a much more efficient means of communication.

Facebook has its uses, certainly. I think I've got more people on my "don't want to see this rubbish" list than I have on my "really want to keep up with you" list, but as long as I remember to check in on people from time to time it can work really well as a method of knowing they're still alive.

I mostly only use facebook for sharing photos with my sister! Keeping track of far-flung relatives is another valid use, though.

Stephen says they feel very lucky, although very shocked and didn't get much sleep as the night was full of aftershock. He's just glad all four of them were at home together when it happened, so they didn't have the worry of not knowing where the others were or if they were okay.

I started my FB account so I could share photos with my daughter :)

So glad your family's OK. Hope it stays that way.

Big relief all around! The baby has exceeded all expectations, given how premature she was, and we're all hugely relieved that Stephen and the family are safe and well, their area wasn't too hard hit. His kids are only 4 and 8, so must have been terribly scared, though.

What a precious little one! Such a sweet little face.

I'm so glad your cousin and his family are OK. The news reports are very worrisome! Terrible, terrible situation over there.

I've wanted to cry all day just watching the news - what a horrendous situation. But an enormous relief that Stephen, Yuki and the children are safe and well - the damage in their area is minimal, he says. They are just outside Tokyo, so were very lucky.

Baby Holly was born 9 weeks prematurely - delivered by her dad at home on the bathroom floor in 15 minutes flat! Her mum had been in work as normal just the day before, shouldn't even have started her maternity leave yet! Came as quite a shock all round and we're still scrambling to catch up in work, but it's such a relief that she is so healthy and able to go home already. :)

I rarely say anything of note on Facebook but it is an excellent way to stay in touch with distant family and friends and it has certainly been useful today. It's good to hear your family are safe. Some of the film is extraordinary and awful.
And little Holly is just delightful, what a pretty and characterful little face she has!

I only opened my facebook account to keep in touch with the family - it's a useful way of swapping photos and the like. And it came into its own today!

Holly is doing incredibly well. They started trying to feed her normally this week because she kept pulling the feeding tube out - she has bags of personality already, yet she shouldn't even be born for another month yet! Then because she took to feeding so well and her lungs have been completely sound from the start, they decided she might as well go home, there was no need to keep her in hospital any longer. She looks like her mum, so far, but has her dad's build - long and thin!

Oh my, Holly is gorgeous! She looks so 'mature', it's unbelievable that she came 2 months early. Clearly a fighter that girl. :)

I am happy your cousin and his family are okay. *hugs*

Such a cutie.

Very pleased to read your relatives are OK. I thought Christchurch was bad enough, but see this on the news and how much worse it was than Christchurch ... WOW.

One asks, what next ?

Meep. Good luck with all you need to do!

Oh now isn't that a cute bublet. Glad she's doing well and is able to be released :D

I'm so glad that your family in Japan are all okay and far from the worst of it. It's absolutely horrifying, it's unbelievable.

Oh little Holly is just beautiful! I am very clucky, it doesn't take much to make me gush! Her parents must be over the moon.

I hope your friend in Tokyo is ok, we have an old neighbour who is there too, he has updated his FB about blackouts so assuming he is ok. The pictures of what's happened over there are just awful.
