Just heard from my colleague, Sarah - she gave birth to a beautiful baby girl yesterday afternoon, 9 weeks premature, at home in the bathroom - baby Holly delivered by her dad, Dylan, in 15 minutes flat - didn't even wait for the ambulance to arrive! Weighed in at 3lb11oz and is now in an incubator keeping warm, but doing extremely well. What a shock!

Am now hurriedly running over any loose ends I know Sarah has left in the office - she wasn't even due to start her maternity leave until the end of March! Boss is going to be frantic - let the short-staffedness commence!

But look how gorgeous!

I've said it before and I'll say it again: real life is a soap opera!

Goodness me, a premie born at home?! I guess they then used the ambulance to get it to the hospital for help? Hope she's okay...as long as she is, that is an enviable labor time, lol!

And man, your office is never short of drama, is it? :p

Yep, premie born at home and then rushed straight to hospital and into an incubator.

The drama just never seems to end. This time last year Sarah and Dylan were on a trial separation. Now they are new parents! I wish them well. And hope that work doesn't get too unmanageable while Sarah is off!

Oh okay I was wondering if the woman giving birth was that one...hard to keep up, gotta make a diagram or something! :p

Hee, I should report on the latest work developments more often to make it easier to follow along at home! *G*

I'd say that things should be quieter now, with Sarah on a year-long maternity leave...but we still have The Other Woman returning to our team to help fill the gap, so...we'll see what happens next!

Welcome to the world indeed - but such a surprise!

Aww sweet. Nearly 4lbs, 9 weeks early is a good size, which should hopefully help. It's a scary thing having a baby in NICU/SCBU, but the staff are fantastic - I'm glad she's doing well. :)

She'd been warned that she was unlikely to go full term, so we've been prepared for her to finish work early - but weren't expecting the birth to happen quite as early as this! The other pregnant girl in the office was signed off by her doctor a fortnight ago, two weeks ahead of her planned maternity leave date...but still hasn't given birth! Sarah and little Holly have taken everyone by surprise. Here's hoping the little one continues to do well.

I'm glad, as well - it could have been so different, a prem baby born at home like that. Luckily she's a good weight for her age and is doing really well, although will have to stay in hospital for a couple of months.

It's wonderful that it went so well. It must be very stressful having her in the hospital like that, but at least she's doing ok.

She is beautiful. Look at the big ol diaper on her teeny butt. Congrats to Sarah and thanks for sharing.

Oh, and kuddos to Dylan. Dad. GOOD CATCH!

Dylan did very well, bless him, given how panicked they both must have been - after only one ante-natal class, as well. Just glad the baby is such a good weight and doing so well - could have easily been such a different story, prem baby being born at home and all.

Well done to the father ... and I can just imagine the size of that pretty pink bonnet ... doll size and she is a very pretty real life doll.

Boss is going to need a few cups of calming tea me thinks.

Bless them, they'd only been to one ante-natal class - that very morning, in fact, so luckily it was all fresh in Dylan's mind!

Just that morning? Much appreciative laughter here - that's just priceless :)

Do please tell Sarah that she and Dylan are very blessed indeed to have such a pretty little daughter. Will Holly's LJ aunts be allowed to see further photos of her as she goes from baby to toddler, do you think?

Thank goodness they covered all the basics and yes, very fresh in his mind. Might have triggered their daughter into action :)

Premature babies often look very strange, so it's lovely to see one that looks so absolutely gorgeous. I think it's lovely also to see a baby deliberately put on her front. Mine were far more comfortable that way, but we got caught up in the aftermath of Anne Diamond losing a baby to cot death, which resulted in a media frenzy of roundly condemning anyone who dared to buck the trend of putting babies on their backs. Thomas, now 16 (eep!), simply would not settle on his back. The instant I put him on his front his eyes closed and he slept the night through.

She's a really good weight for her age, which is the real blessing. If she'd gone full term she'd have been enormous! We knew Sarah wasn't going to go the distance, but never dreamt she'd go quite as early and dramatically as this!
