Dec. 30th, 2010 08:49 amHey, so some of you might remember that ages ago now, I was walking to work and saw a period scene being filmed outside the museum - the front of the building was all dressed up with banners for Oswald Mosely's Fascist Party, there were vintage cars parked out front and a whole gang of actors in 1930s costume clustered around the door, plus of course cameras, lighting rigs, and a catering station off to one side. At the time we speculated that it might have been a scene for Doctor Who, as the only production that I knew for sure was filming at the time, plus with a show featuring time travel, a trip to the 1930s didn't seem out of the question.
Turns out it wasn't Doctor Who. It was a scene from episode two of the new Upstairs Downstairs, which aired this week - the scene where rebellious young Lady Persie follows Spargo the chauffeur to a Mosely rally and they stand at the back of the crowd clustered around the door and cheer. Recognised both the location and the scene immediately!
Funny how they went to so much trouble to dress the front of the building and then never showed it even once!
I've only seen two of the three episodes of the new Upstairs Downstairs so far, thanks to my house guests, but I'm really enjoying it - cracking costume drama, as you'd expect from the Beeb. Of course, it may help that I don't really remember the original...
In Other News, it is so nice to be able to see my garden and the pavement again. Long may the thaw last!

It's lovely to look out and see green instead of white!

Date: 2010-12-30 05:01 pm (UTC)It's odd that Upstairs Downstairs is only three episodes. It follows nicely from the original, but at the end of episode three I was left wondering why they hadn't bothered to finish the story. I hope there's more soon..

Aw, no more snow? Suppose it was a bit of a health hazzard!
