femsc! Welais i ti ar y teledu neithiwr!!!! Roedd yn gyffrous iawn. Mwynhais i canu'r côr yn yr eisteddfod - llongyfarchiadau am yr ennill! 'Dw i'n edrych ymlaen i'r gyngerdd yn Neuadd Dewi Sant.
Yay!! Roedd y rhaglen neithiwr yn dda iawn, ond yw hi! Ces i gwpl o screengrabs o'r y we, a af i'n postio nhw mewn bit. Roedd amser am rhywbeth cardarnhaol yn y sioe.
Roedd y rhaglen neithiwr yn ardderchog - roedd neis gweld mwy o'r...côrau (?? desperately scrabbling for plural of côr)
The series has focused so much on the trainee conductors, it was about time we got to see a bit more of the actual choirs in action! I do love choral music, should listen to it more often. Also, remembering your post after winning that eisteddfod, it definitely wasn't the cameras that swung it for you - after all, if that was all it took, the Ogwen choir would have won theirs, as well!
You're right about the eisteddfod result of course, but when I posted I didn't know how Ogwen had got on because contrary to what was said on the programme, we had our competition the evening before Ogwen's. And I have to admit that even when I knew their result it didn't occur to me that they'd have won if t'were a bit of a fix... Thanks for pointing it out to me - I feel a lot better about it now.
You're not the only one who's been getting a bit irritated with the focus being solely on the conductors. I know that they're the people under the spotlight, but the choirs are working really hard as well. We've only come together for the programme, so we're not what you'd call established, and we don't all speak Welsh or read music. It's been a lot of hard work for all of us, but until now none of that's really been shown.
It isn't even that I've minded seeing the conductors learn, while I've actively enjoyed all the history lessons...but it would have been nice to see more of the actual choirs. Last week was the worst, when I don't think we saw the actual Rhondda choir even once, only Donna's history lesson taking up the whole of Rhondda's quarter of the programme. Interesting though the history lesson was, I wanted to a) hear some more singing, and b) have my usual session of peering closely at the choir every time the camera panned past, so as not to miss you! *G* So last night's was great, in that respect.
Another point in favour of the eisteddfod result not being fixed in your favour - it was meant to be a head-to-head competition between Rhondda and Tawe, wasn't it (and Ogwen and Rhos up north)? Couldn't fix it for you both to win!
Dewi Sant is indeed St David. Neuadd Dewi Sant = St David's Hall, a concert theatre in Cardiff.
These are mixed choirs (male and female), formed for a television programme on the Welsh channel S4C - four Welsh celebrities were challenged to put together mixed choirs in four different regions of the country, each with the support of a more experienced musician. The grand finale is a concert at St David's Hall in about a week and a half, when the four choirs will compete against one another.
femsc is in the Rhondda choir, so I've been watching avidly each week in hopes of catching a glimpse of her, and was delighted when the camera finally picked her out in last night's instalment!
Codi Canu (loosely translates as Arise and Sing or Take Up Singing) is a sort of reality show on S4C (Welsh language version of UK's TV Channel 4) in which choirs are formed for competition in a grand finale. The current series features four regional mixed choirs under the baton of Welsh celebrities who have had to learn conducting skills from scratch. The grand finale will be in St Davids Hall on Saturday 27th November. Tickets are free (yes, FREE!) from the box office...
Two of my sons and I are singing with Cor Cwm Rhondda (Rhondda Valley Choir), and the series has focussed on the trials and tribulations the choirs have faced.
Last night's episode showed two of the choirs singing in local eisteddfodau. It should have been all four, but two of them pulled out... In the south Wales Eisteddfod y Cymoedd (Valleys Eisteddfod), Cor Cwm Rhondda pulled out all the stops and (wait for the fanfare please) won. Our conductor Donna Edwards (Welsh actress currently in soap opera Pobl y Cwm) collected a ginormous silver cup and a cheque for £100 which she spent on food and drink to give us a party.

Dewi Sant
Is this Saint David?
Are these the traditional male choirs or just a general choir?
