Sep. 24th, 2010 10:23 am1. New-old dishwasher is playing up already. I'm beginning to think maybe it's me - I give off some kind of dishwasher-killing vibe, or something!
2. Had a fun-filled and very busy few days with
sherrilina during her visit this week, rattling around the city on a whistle-stop tour of all the major tourist hot spots...plus a few that were rather more off the beaten track, but noteworthy for having been Doctor Who shooting locations, K being fresh off a five season Who marathon. The weather held out for us, too, luckily enough. It seemed such a shame to have to return to work this morning!
3. Have got a formal meeting with Boss on Monday to discuss my contract - she called me into her office this morning to hand over an official HR letter about it, mostly because the letter (being an official HR document) sounds pretty grim, so she wanted to hand it over in person to assure me that it is good news really, they just can't say that in the letter because it is about end of contract rather than renewal of contract. I think this means that my contract is going to be renewed, although for how long remains to be seen. Watch this space!
4. Of course, I think our team would be in big trouble next year if they didn't renew my contract, since the other admin officer has just announced that she is pregnant, and the admin assistant is still seconded to another team. Now, both of these details are connected to an ongoing saga that...on reflection, I don't think I've ever actually mentioned on LJ before, although my VIP friends over at BuffyForums will be familiar with the story. Sarah, the admin officer, and Amanda, the admin assistant, were once the very best of friends. Last November, Sarah married her long-term partner, Dylan (who works for the same department, although elsewhere in the building), and all seemed well. But then one weekend, just before Christmas, Dylan went out to supposedly spend the evening 'with the boys'...but instead met up with Amanda and stayed the night with her, this just one month to the day after the wedding. Cue massive meltdown. Sarah and Amanda's friendship came to a crashing halt. Sarah and Dylan's fledgling marriage looked to be over almost before it had begun. However, although badly hurt, Sarah felt that she had invested too much in the relationship to give up on it...but Dylan, unable to cope with his guilt, struggled badly to cope with this forgiveness. The atmosphere in work was tense and strained. At length, Amanda was seconded to another team, where she remains even now. Sarah and Dylan agreed upon a trial separation for a month. At the end of that month, though, and in the wake of marriage counselling, they decided to give the marriage another try and have been back together ever since. They seem happy and stable enough now, but even so, it still seems a little soon to be papering over the cracks with a baby...but what do I know? Not my marriage! It's been a bit like watching a soap opera unfolding before my eyes, and this is merely the latest twist...time will tell how the story ends! Still, congratulations to them.
5. Three cheers for my very talented colleague Carys from HR, who is heading out to India this week to take part in the Commonwealth Games; she plays for the Welsh field hockey team. Best of luck to them! (And when they get back, I'll have to ask Carys if the accommodation is really as bad as the news claims it is)

Oh wow, good luck to them! Even if (if our team goes) we will kick Welsh butt ;p
*crosses fingers for the contract renewal*
