Oooh, major filming going on outside the museum this morning - very interesting! I often see film crews setting up there, but they are usually taking stuff inside. This was an external shoot - lots of extras milling around and a catering station set up, plus a fleet of classic cars (if I were a motorhead I could tell you what they were, but alas I am not) and a bunch of banners draped across the front of the museum bearing some kind of political logo and slogan (about a leader named Mosley). The extras I saw appeared to be dressed for the 1930s, from what I could tell (possibly the '40s?).

ETA that the lovely and very clever [livejournal.com profile] justwolf has identified the banners I saw as relating to Sir Oswald Mosley, who founded the British Union of Fascists in the '30s - definitely the right logo, and fits with the costumes and cars! Potentially a fascinating episode there, then. I'd have taken photos, only I wasn't sure the crew would appreciate a passer-by whipping out a camera! They don't usually film at the musem on a Tuesday - Monday is filming day because the museum is closed, so they can hire it out and have the place to themselves. But maybe this was an early morning shoot already wrapping up, so as to be done before the musem opens to the public.

In other news, I was woken in the wee sma's by an alarm going off at one of the nearby stadia this morning - either the Athletics Stadium or the new Cardiff City Stadium, not sure which, as they are right alongside one another. That was fun. That alarm has gone off a few times lately, always the same - a siren followed by an echoey pre-recorded announcement over the tannoy, recurring; loud enough that I can hear it from my house, while distant enough that I can't make out the words. Whatever the fault is, I hope they get it fixed soon!

Also, my cats actually compete to be brushed and flea-combed - they push each other out of the way to get another turn! I'm sure that can't be normal.

And finally, I have been invited by central HR to join the staff redeployment register. My contract runs out in December, no news yet on whether or not it will be renewed.

Sir Oswald Mosley founded the British Union of Fascists in the 30s. He also married one of the Mitford girls. I wrote an essay about him once: wonder if that's the Mosley they were meaning? If so it makes sense that the extras were dressed for the 30s. It sounds exciting!

My cat loves to be brushed as well. He drags his comb to me and looks up at me hopefully.

Oooh, that makes sense! Very plausible - and potentially very interesting! Hang on, let me google...yep, that's the logo I saw. Right, you have put the pieces together for me, clever you. Ace! :)

Mine don't do so far as to bring the comb to be, but they do come running over all excited when I pick it up!

Heh, LC history is useful for something! :) I wonder what it'll be about. It would be cool if they did some kind alternative scenario where the fascist party took over Britain.

Of course, after all this it might have been a completely different programme being filmed, but my gut says that it was Who. I shall look forward to finding out what it was all about!

Oh how cool - and yeah, Mosely, nasty piece of fascist work... ooh, wonder what the storie's going to be! Was it definitely DW? Oooooh! *vbg*

(Ooh, and I read somewhere the other day that TW would still be filming a bit in Cardiff too, which made me feel a bit better about it. A bit...)

I can't be sure it was Who, no, but they do seem the most likely candidate - and they have used the museum as a location (inside and out) many, many times before. I suppose we'll just have to wait and see!

I feel that my education on modern British history is clearly sadly lacking, since I didn't recognise Mosley's name or his party's logo. I can't help it - I'm a medievalist at heart!

I knew that Torchwood were still going to be filming here a bit - well, BBC Wales is still the parent company for the show, so it makes sense. I suppose time will tell how it all turns out, and how much time they spend where.

You're so lucky having all these shows film around your area. Makes like more fun. Sounds like it'll be an interesting epi.

What on earth at the alarm. How annoying. They better fix it soon.

Fingers crossed for hopefully getting your contract renewed.

The cat I had in my childhood and teens used to enjoy being vacuumed. Odd creatures, cats.

I love seeing film crews around and then recognising places I know when the programme gets aired.

You could complain to the council about the noise of the alarm - they probably have powers to stop it or impose fines if it continues.
