Things that make laundry problematic.

1. A trailing hem brushes against the climbing rose as you lower the line, so that as you unpeg your work trousers you find them plastered with greenfly.

2. The playful kitten Alfie decides that all trailing hems are fair game and jumps up to hang off them constantly, both as the line is loaded and unloaded.

3.

4. The washing line snaps, depositing your nice clean laundry all over the dusty, leaf-strewn ground.

Yep, that last one just happened this afternoon. I was not amused. Alfie was, though.

This is why I dry indoors.

Most of the above can still apply indoors! Well, 2-4, anyway. And it all dries so much faster outside on a warm, windy day...

if 4 applies inside your house, you have very interesting interior decorating ideas

Ah, so you think dusty and leaf-strewn is a bit last fall, then...? :P

But seriously, the surface the clothes fall on aside, the line over the bath has been known to snap!

Conclusion: laundry is evil. Cristina on Grey's Anatomy had the right idea: "I don't do laundry. I buy new underwear." *G*

OT, you'll know this one. This Sherlock Holmes thing that's on tonight, did it have a pilot? I seem to recall reading about the Beeb spending a ton on a Holmes thing that turned out to be crap and was never getting shown. Is it this?

Oh, I'm going to disappoint you now, because I don't actually know. If true, they must have either upgraded significantly or just be hoping no one notices, because they're promoting the heck out of it.

Although having said that, I'd actually forgotten it was on tonight. I'm not really a Holmes fan, so it's kinda flying below my radar a bit. Maybe I should check it out. Must look for the airtime.

Alfie on Guard Duty ... good lad :)

I dry indoors too ... nice warmth coming off the sliding door glass, no worries about changing weather or insect invasions.

He's not guarding the clothes. He's lounging on them so I can't put anything else in the basket! :P

In this climate, drying indoors really isn't ideal. I much prefer a nice sunny/breezy day and an outdoor line...as long as it doesn't break.

True, your climate is colder than mine. Does the weather rot the line ? Sun can be very damaging here.

Waiting for those who saw Martin and Jenny last night to wake up and give their reports, looks like I'll have to wait another day. Bill is in no hurry to put anything into the gallery at the moment. Wishing my life away, as always. Why can't these people understand we (I) want to see!

The line is made of plastic/nylon material, so doesn't rot, no. It just snaps randomly as a result of accumulated stress!

Plastic does not go well in our hot weather, especially if we are having an extreme summer. Yes, your clothing would be heavier than ours. I only have "1" winter dress and with our exceptionally cold winter we are having this year, it is getting worn/washed/dried/ironed/worn ....

Whereas my wardrobe is heavy on winter woollies!

Poor cold you. Hopefully the weather will turn soon.

Aw kitty. Guarding the laundry from any predators that might want to feed on it. How frustrating. Sorry, Jo. Can't say about drying indoors, cause that'd take more time... but at least it'd keep your clothes clean :\
