This morning as I walked through the park on my way to work, a squirrel ran over my foot as it dashed across the footpath. I was rather startled by this. Shouldn't they all be hibernating by now? On a dark, dismal morning like this, I should quite like to join them.

Thank you to everyone who has left snowflake cookies for me. How very festive! :)

I think they come out to eat the nuts they have buried or hidden, don't they? That's what I always imagine they are doing, anyway, lol, they always look like they are making a mad dash to get the grub and then get back to bed out the cold!

Jules and I often talk about how wonderful it would be to hibernate for the whole winter. I'd be quite happy to be snuggled under quilts by the fire, snoozing whenever I wanted to.

Yes. I would be well up for a hibernation plan for the whole winter!

Sleepy squirrel must have been half-asleep to have not seen me - we almost collided!

The snowflakes are fab. I'm not sending any v-gifts just yet, though. Too early.

Squirrels don't hibernate.

*sticks tongue out* They usually go into hiding over winter, at least, rather than run over the feet of innocent passers-by.

I still like the idea of hibernation. It sounds...cosy.

The squirrels that come in my back garden visit every day, all year round. They come and eat the bird food. Whatever the weather they are here. They live in some large trees at the back of the gardens and don't seem to hibernate at all. They a quite a pain as it costs me a fortune having to buy new feeders as they keep breaking them.

I think the RSPB sell allegedly squirrel-proof feeders. I say allegedly, because squiggles are pretty resourceful when it comes to food..

Ran over your foot?? That's a bit brave, for a squirrel! They don't usually get that close to people if they can help it.

LOL SQUIRREL! Random. Didn't know that squirrels hiberated too. Shame you can't join them in their warm sleeping sea of cute instead of walking in the cold.

*hugs*

Well, as pointed out above, they don't technically hibernate - aren't obligate hibernates - but they do generally go into hiding in the dead of winter, rather than sprinting around almost colliding with innocent pedestrians!
