I've been promising Poppy piccies for a while now, and all the cables are now unpacked and accounted for, so here goes: moving house through animal eyes.
First of all, Poppy had to help me pack. So many boxes! What's a confused little cat supposed to do?

And then all those boxes had to be unpacked again, in a strange new house full of strange new smells.

The plants on the windowsill had to be carefully arranged so that Poppy has room to sit among them.

But weaving among them is such fun - won't be long before they start getting knocked down again! Good thing they all need re-potting anyway, then.

Look! You can see birds out there!

The first time she saw me out in the garden, she actually fell off the windowsill with shock! LOL
Good thing Poppy's favourite teddy bear has also made the move.

Even when cwtching on a lap, there is so much to see and smell and experience, it can be hard to relax.

What's this? A dishwasher? Is there room for Poppy in there...?

There are tropical fish in this new house, left behind for us to take care of because they seem determined to live forever. The shark fish is called Sinbad and the very shy but very beautiful catfish is Casper.

Brother Mine's elderly little cat, Chess, has also been left behind for a few weeks until his room is ready for her to move into. Poppy is scared of other cats and Chess has always been shy and reclusive (as well as being a midget) so you'd think they would cancel one another out, but Chess is on home turf, which gives her the upper hand.

Mostly the two cats avoid one another like the plague, but Chess is on a diet of dry food only, which makes Poppy's meat meals very tempting indeed, even though rich food makes her sick. She is always trying to sneak past and steal food, which can lead to minor spats.

On top of all that, sometimes Small comes to visit...and brings her little dog Ruby with her!

It's a hard life.

Ruby thinks so too.

Small is beginning to settle, though, getting used to her new home and to Poppy and me being in her old house.

And finally...me! Also beginning to settle now that unpacking is proceeding apace.

There's still a long way to go - and that's before we even start to think about the decorating - but we're getting there, slowly but surely.

Date: 2009-06-29 10:38 am (UTC)Not as funny as the way she fell off the windowsill when she saw me out in the back garden for the first time, though. That one'll keep me giggling for a long time!

Date: 2009-06-29 10:39 am (UTC)I used to have a cat who, if you put an empty match box on the floor, would stick a paw into it, just so she could say she was in the box! LOL

Date: 2009-06-29 01:37 pm (UTC)Poppy is still a bit freaked out by all the changes and new things, as your cats will be, but she's getting used to it already and soon will be completely settled - all the more so once the other cat moves out!
How long do you think until your move? Going far?

Date: 2009-06-29 07:41 pm (UTC)I'm sure they'll be a bit freaked out too, but hopefully settle in quickly. :)
We're moving about half an hour's walk from where we live now--not far at all. But to a much bigger place! We get the keys at the end of July, but should be moving in in August.

Date: 2009-06-30 12:43 pm (UTC)Poppy wasn't used to stairs, but she got the hang of them immediately. I'm sure Shambles and Sebastian will do likewise - and have great fun running up and down.

Date: 2009-06-29 11:57 am (UTC)Such a busy time for both of you. It'd be lovely to be able to curl up and go to sleep like cats do, leaving all the work to their humans.
I'm happy for you that the actual move is over, although you still have a lot to do.

Date: 2009-06-29 01:33 pm (UTC)She was pretty freaked out at first, and is still on high alert most of the time, but she is getting used to the house, slowly but surely. She's halfway to figuring out how the cat flap works already, despite never actually seeing it in action, and is very cross that it is kept locked still!

Date: 2009-06-29 02:41 pm (UTC)Oh and Chess? Aptly named!
And I know what you mean about cats with the upper hand. My BF adopted his sister's cat when she passed away last year, but she and his two other cats still have territorial disputes.

Date: 2009-06-30 12:15 pm (UTC)It's all about territorialism, isn't it, with cats. Mostly, though, these two stick to opposite ends of the house, which is fine by me! And the arrangement is strictly temporary anyway.

And yay for dishwashers!

Date: 2009-06-30 12:38 pm (UTC)Small is getting SO TALL! She got that from her father. His height and her mother's build. She's 13 now and growing up so fast, it's scary.

Date: 2009-06-30 04:38 am (UTC)I think Miss Poppy needs a bit more space between the pot plants ... cats do like to stretch out.
Nice to see a picture of you in there too.

Date: 2009-06-30 12:41 pm (UTC)I didn't knit the bear, no - it came from my old job, at the charity. One of the projects was a knitting project for older ladies - kept them active and occupied, even if housebound, and then good homes were found for their products. Poppy loves her bear.
