I've been promising Poppy piccies for a while now, and all the cables are now unpacked and accounted for, so here goes: moving house through animal eyes.

First of all, Poppy had to help me pack. So many boxes! What's a confused little cat supposed to do?

And then all those boxes had to be unpacked again, in a strange new house full of strange new smells.

The plants on the windowsill had to be carefully arranged so that Poppy has room to sit among them.

But weaving among them is such fun - won't be long before they start getting knocked down again! Good thing they all need re-potting anyway, then.

Look! You can see birds out there!

The first time she saw me out in the garden, she actually fell off the windowsill with shock! LOL

Good thing Poppy's favourite teddy bear has also made the move.

Even when cwtching on a lap, there is so much to see and smell and experience, it can be hard to relax.

What's this? A dishwasher? Is there room for Poppy in there...?

There are tropical fish in this new house, left behind for us to take care of because they seem determined to live forever. The shark fish is called Sinbad and the very shy but very beautiful catfish is Casper.

Brother Mine's elderly little cat, Chess, has also been left behind for a few weeks until his room is ready for her to move into. Poppy is scared of other cats and Chess has always been shy and reclusive (as well as being a midget) so you'd think they would cancel one another out, but Chess is on home turf, which gives her the upper hand.

Mostly the two cats avoid one another like the plague, but Chess is on a diet of dry food only, which makes Poppy's meat meals very tempting indeed, even though rich food makes her sick. She is always trying to sneak past and steal food, which can lead to minor spats.

On top of all that, sometimes Small comes to visit...and brings her little dog Ruby with her!

It's a hard life.

Ruby thinks so too.

Small is beginning to settle, though, getting used to her new home and to Poppy and me being in her old house.

And finally...me! Also beginning to settle now that unpacking is proceeding apace.

There's still a long way to go - and that's before we even start to think about the decorating - but we're getting there, slowly but surely.

Thanks! We're getting there, at last.

Hope you're feeling a bit better now, after all those lurgies you seem to have had poleaxing you lately.

Hee. Poppy luuuuurves that teddy. He's always in a different place whenever I get home from work, as she seems to spend her days dragging him around all over the place!

Awwwww, how cute. Love especially the one with Poppy and her teddy. ♥

She loves that teddy so much. It never ceases to amuse me, the way she wraps both paws around it and hugs it to her - usually just to hold it in place while she chews on it!

Not as funny as the way she fell off the windowsill when she saw me out in the back garden for the first time, though. That one'll keep me giggling for a long time!

Heh, cats and boxes, a winning combo!

Hee, yep, they always, always love a box to sit in.

I used to have a cat who, if you put an empty match box on the floor, would stick a paw into it, just so she could say she was in the box! LOL

They are SO cute. Those box times are good times. We're moving soon and I'm pretty sure our cats are going to have some exciting box times too. :) I love all the sleepy Poppy pics, they're extra adorable.

No matter how cute a small thing is, they are always cuter when asleep, rather than wreaking havoc!

Poppy is still a bit freaked out by all the changes and new things, as your cats will be, but she's getting used to it already and soon will be completely settled - all the more so once the other cat moves out!

How long do you think until your move? Going far?

Our new place will have stairs which Shambles and Sebastian will have never seen before. I have no idea what they'll make of them!

I'm sure they'll be a bit freaked out too, but hopefully settle in quickly. :)

We're moving about half an hour's walk from where we live now--not far at all. But to a much bigger place! We get the keys at the end of July, but should be moving in in August.

From: [identity profile] llywela13.livejournal.com
Oh, best of luck with it all. It can be a hugely stressful process, although if the new place doesn't need much doing to it you should find it a lot easier than ours was! I hope it all goes smoothly for you. :)

Poppy wasn't used to stairs, but she got the hang of them immediately. I'm sure Shambles and Sebastian will do likewise - and have great fun running up and down.

Hee, yeah, she looks so adorable when she hugs it - even though it is only so she can chew it!

It looks as if Poppy had to try all the boxes and she is having a great time. She looks so cute cuddling her teddy, although I know it's only so she can chew on him.

Such a busy time for both of you. It'd be lovely to be able to curl up and go to sleep like cats do, leaving all the work to their humans.

I'm happy for you that the actual move is over, although you still have a lot to do.

Date: 2009-06-29 01:33 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] llywela13.livejournal.com
Heh, yeah, the teddy hugging is just to keep him still for chewing, but it looks so adorable!

She was pretty freaked out at first, and is still on high alert most of the time, but she is getting used to the house, slowly but surely. She's halfway to figuring out how the cat flap works already, despite never actually seeing it in action, and is very cross that it is kept locked still!

I can completely sympathise with Poppy - one must check out all the boxes. One might be special. Or destined for litter, or something.

Oh and Chess? Aptly named!

And I know what you mean about cats with the upper hand. My BF adopted his sister's cat when she passed away last year, but she and his two other cats still have territorial disputes.

Date: 2009-06-30 12:15 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] llywela13.livejournal.com
Heh. Chess was named for her colouring, obviously - but she has a pretty good strategical brain, too, when she wants!

It's all about territorialism, isn't it, with cats. Mostly, though, these two stick to opposite ends of the house, which is fine by me! And the arrangement is strictly temporary anyway.

Ahhh, a plethora of adorableness!!!!! Furry and finny animals! Poppy and her teddy bear are very cute. I'm curious to know how she finds the fish.

I'm glad it seems the move has gone smoothly (at least from your end).

And yay for dishwashers!

Oddly enough, Poppy barely seems to have even noticed the fish. There's not really a surface suitable for her to sit and stare at them, I suppose. Years ago, when I was growing up, we had our piano standing nearby, and our cat would sit on it and stare at them for hours!

I am now, officially, a huge Poppy fan! She is so adorable, hugging her teddy, watching you out in the garden, making sure she was in a box ready to be moved.
I'm glad the move went well!!

Aye, my girl is the sweetest little girl in the whole world, although I still haven't stopped giggling about her falling off the windowsill when she saw me in the garden. She was still being kept in that one room at that point, and hadn't realised it was possible to get out into the garden from the house - it was all just scenery. But then she saw me out there, and wow, surprise! Opened up a whole world of possibilities! She is now eagerly anticipating the day she is allowed to roam freely.

I bet she'll love the new area to explore!!
I'd be giggling about her startled fall off the windowsill as well.

I'm kinda fond of the pic of her on the computer chair, sucking her own tail...

Small is getting SO TALL! She got that from her father. His height and her mother's build. She's 13 now and growing up so fast, it's scary.

Love the picspam! LOL @ the number of different ways Poppy sits and lies among the plants. The story of her falling off the windowsill made me giggle!
Small and Ruby are adorable together!

Glad everything is going ok with the sorting out. :)

I'm still giggling about her falling off the windowsill myself! She was still being kept in the one room at that point and hadn't realised it was possible to get into the garden from the house - it was all just so much scenery to look at. But then I suddenly appeared out there, and wow was that a surprise! Such a surprise that she toppled over backward LOL

It'll never not be funny *G*

Welcome 'back' home Agent 1.3 and Miss Poppy. Love the pics of her and her teddy bear ... did you knit it ?

I think Miss Poppy needs a bit more space between the pot plants ... cats do like to stretch out.

Nice to see a picture of you in there too.

Date: 2009-06-30 12:41 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] llywela13.livejournal.com
Hey, the plants need space too! If Poppy wants to stretch out, she can roll off the windowsill and sprawl on the sofa just below *G*

I didn't knit the bear, no - it came from my old job, at the charity. One of the projects was a knitting project for older ladies - kept them active and occupied, even if housebound, and then good homes were found for their products. Poppy loves her bear.

I like to knit, but wool and cats do not mix. Must get back into it as I need some more slippers.
