joyride!

We had some fun and games this morning - a stolen car crashed into the side of a sushi bar not 100 yards from my front door! Yeah, that was nice and chaotic. The road was closed for quite a while - getting out to get to my IT class was fun. All clear now, though, bar the clearing up. The poor owners must be going crazy at the thought that some idiot could steal a car for the sheer hell of it and end up doing this to their livelihood.

Also, look at that lovely blue sky in the picture - you'd never guess that just last Friday we had a month's worth of rain in 24 hours!

There are so many idiots around!! Such a lot of damage to the building and I should imagine the car would be a write-off. Hope that driver was hurt!!

Such beautiful blue sky and such a pleasure for you to see after all the rain you have had.

The driver walked away! He'd stolen the car and did a runer - the police are looking for him!

And that restaurant is going to be closed for some time, which isn't good news for the people who work there.

It is very nice to see some blue sky. Alas, it isn't going to last long - the rain will be rolling back in later this afternoon, apparently.

Mmmmm sushi!

Er...I know that wasn't really the point of the post. What a lot of damage they have done. Hope noone was hurt.

Heh. I'm not so much for sushi, but it's a good restaurant, and who knows how long they'll have to close down for. No one was hurt - the joyriding driver managed to get himself out of the car and leg it. Police are still looking for him. The family/staff in the living quarters upstairs had quite a shock, but were unharmed. The loss of business is going to hit them hard, though.

Good job no one was around at the time! And... you have blue sky?! *sulks*

Don't worry, the blue sky didn't last long. Ee, but it were lovely while it did though. And as Llywela's already said, more rain is forecast. *Sigh*

Yeah...the blue sky didn't stick around for long. Just long enough to remind us what we've been missing all summer!

From: [identity profile] femsc.livejournal.com
Oh, glory. That's going to cost a small fortune to put right, and the enforced closure won't do the business any good at all.

On one level I'm glad no one was hurt; OTOH it would have served the idiot driver right to have been seriously embarrassed as well as caught. I hope they find him.

Aye, I feel really sorry for the owners and staff. And it's kind of a cleft stick - you wouldn't want someone to be hurt, but it might have been good if the driver had at least been trapped enough that he couldn't escape!

If you're going to do it, you might as well do it properly!

Holy crap! Hope no one was hurt.

Oh nice weather! Haha looks can be decieving eh? :P Wow that is a lotta rain o.0

Yeah, no one was hurt - not even the driver, miraculously enough - but the damage is impressive. And so was the chaos.

And yes - don't be fooled by that blue sky! It's the first time I'd seen it in weeks, and it only lasted a few hours before the rain rolled back in.

Goodness, you've got a sushi bar within walking distance? *yum!*

OK, sorry, that should not have been my first reaction, should it? Or to notice that lovely blue sky. Still, at least nobody got hurt - although one might hope that the perp is at least bruised a bit. What a nightmare for the owners though.

Heh, yeah, that's been the reaction of a few people! And yeah - my area is both full of students and very multi-ethnic, and I live on the main street. So there are all kinds of takeouts and restaurants within a five minute walk - sushi, Chinese, Thai, Indian, Moroccan...you name it, you can eat there!

Typical ... stolen car, all that damage and the idiot escaped ... they will have a hard job finding him/her unless they left some DNA in the car and the police can match it to someone on their data base.

We have some cloud today and a few drops of rain. NOTHING like what you have been having, though we need it.

Yeah, I feel bad for the owner and staff of the restaurant.

If I could give you our rain, I would. We have too much and you desperately need it over there. Mother Nature does not play fair.

It seems the Northern Hemisphere gets 98% of the rain ... maybe we should turn the Earth upside down so we can get our share ... if only it were that easy.

Heh, yeah. I was talking to [livejournal.com profile] femsc about this last week. We can't get over that the resources are found to transport vast quantities of oil around the world, but not water. It seems crazy.

Exactly. The powers-to-be have their priorities in the wrong order. Man can move mountains, if he applies himself to the task.

Especially when you consider just how many places are desperately short of water. I suppose the sad truth is that the people who really need water are the ones who can't afford to pay over the odds for it. And then again, why should they? Priorities are very skewed :(

OMG - I can't believe the stuff that happens in your neighborhood!

LOL it's actually a really nice area to live. Full of students, of course, but loads of shops and restaurants, beautiful parks just around the corner...

Just now and then we get these crazy things happening!

I can't recall much excitement when I was living in that area - but then again that was over 20 years ago...

I don't like seafood in any shape or form, so sushi isn't something I'd go for, but I'm sure I've been in that restaurant in a former incarnation. Is it Arnolds?

Date: 2008-09-12 12:15 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] llywela13.livejournal.com
That restaurant has had all kinds of different incarnations in the...what is it, 10 years I've been living in the area. It's only been Ichiban for a year or two at most. Sushi isn't my thing, either, but I've always heard good things about them, so it's a real shame what happened.

Always nice when people decide the neighborhood should change :)

I'm behind! IT classes? What what what exactly????

*big hugs!*

Same IT class I've been taking since I was made redundant, Rose - the government has this scheme whereby if you are made redundant you can apply for a grant and do training, so I decided to brush up my IT skills, since they are mostly self-taught. It's a Business IT Diploma, with some web design modules. Nothing fancy, but it's been keeping me busy. I'm almost finished now, though.

From: [identity profile] rosely.livejournal.com
Oh good! And are you liking it?

Date: 2008-09-13 03:06 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] llywela13.livejournal.com
Yeah, it's been good. I mean, some of the modules were pretty basic, going over more stuff I already knew than I didn't, but since most everything I know is self taught it's been good to get a more solid grounding, maybe explore a few functions of various programmes that I'd never had reason to mess around with before. Plus, it's given me a reason to get up and out all these months!
