Just down the corridor from my office is a small room one of the other programmes uses for storing stationery. This week some well-meaning soul has labelled this room. The sign says 'Stationary Room'. So I am now having visions of this tiny room remaining still while the rest of the building revolves around it, or something. Amazing I manage to find my own office every morning if it isn't stationary!

Well, if Doctor Who is to be believed, Cardiff is located on a rift in time and space...

Spelling counts, kids! *G*

Just so! The little aide-memoire I was taught as a child was that stationery (the paper sort) was spelt with an e for envelope - never fails, I remember it every time.
But I like the idea of that room being still and the rest of the building creeping about stealthily!

So do I! It almost feels kinda Harry Potterish to imagine all the rooms secretly shifting location except for that one...

Take 2 ... got it wrong the first time ...

stationery (the paper sort) was spelt with an e for envelope

very clever and I shall remember this.

English never been my strong point and with all the American spelling on the internet, my spelling is worse.

It is satisfying when something so simple works as a memory aid, isn't it? Nice to pass it on after all these years!
I can't say I've noticed any problems with your English, by the way and I think we've all got used to seeing American/English spellings, especially on LJ. Sometimes if I'm commenting to an American friend on LJ, I find myself thinking "I bet they think that's spelt wrong" but, hey, I'm English, this is what the English way!

centre is the one I have a problem with as when I html a document for preserving at MP ... I have use the American spelling 'center' otherwise the coding will not work ... it was very frustrating in the beginning. Naturally I am using an American program which is free so I cannot complain.

theatre is another word that I do a double take on when I see it spelt 'theater'.

All in all, it keeps me on my toes.

Are you sure that it isn't a special room provided by your caring employer where you can all go and stand completely still whilst contemplating your navels, thus reducing the effects of your very stressful jobs?

Just a thought...

Caring...employer...?

*is bemused*

What's one of those?

I kinda like the idea of it being a room in which to stand very very still, though!

LOL Just goes to show how bad I am at spelling, I would never have noticed anything wrong with that sign!

And of course Dr Who is to be believed :D

So I really do live atop a rift in space and time...?

Hmm. That could explain quite a lot, actually!

I always have to stop and think about the spelling of that word, too. There are some weird and wonderful spellings of words out there, can't think of any at the moment, but our local paper often shows photos of signs with really bad spelling.
