The washed out/sepia tone kind of comes naturally with Supernatural, because the show is filmed in gorgeous desaturated colours to begin with (plus: pretty, pretty boys who'll do anything for each other!). After that it's just a matter of playing with gradients, not really knowing what I'm doing, and making it up as I go along...
