Heard this morning that a girl I went to school with has died from a brain tumour. Victoria was a couple of years younger than me - her sister Lauren was my age, and there's a younger sister as well, Claire. They used to go to my church, so we knew each other well as teenagers, although I haven't seen any of them to hang out properly in years, so that when I think of Victoria now I still see her aged 15, laughing away with the rest of the group we had back then. She'd been ill for a really long time, so for her it is probably a release, but her parents and sisters must be in bits right now. RIP Victoria.

On a brighter note, I had a lovely, relaxing, family oriented weekend. Saturday wasn't planned to be quite so family oriented, but my parents and Small descended upon me rather abruptly to deliver their old bed settee to replace my one. Getting rid of the bed settee is part of their attempt to become slightly more minimalist in their back room - an ongoing and possibly completely fruitless exercise, although rather beneficial to me. My old bed settee was second hand when I got it and, although adequately functional, has never been ideal. One of the legs fell off and had to be put back on every time I moved it! So, all in all, having the newish and considerably more sturdy one is well worth the price of having to entertain half my family at very short notice. Very short, as in, I had no clue that Saturday was going to be the day of the Great Sofa Exchange until they phoned to say they were on their way! Luckily I was already halfway through making a fresh fruit salad, and had already made a batch of Welsh cakes, so I actually had food to offer them. I never usually have much in the way of nibble-type finger-food in the house to offer unexpected guests.

And yesterday, of course, was Father's Day, so spent it hanging out with my parents and making a fuss of my Dad. Very nice.

It's also very nice to have the Doctor Who buzz back this season - enjoying it thoroughly. But will post about the episode separately at some point when I've gathered my thoughts properly.

That's really sad Jo. I remember hearing about a girl I was friends with at school who died about 3 years after we left. It was quite a sad situation - she'd been complaining to the docs of headaches and migranes for years, and then one day she dropped down in the drive from some sort of 'water on the brain' thing that the docs had never found.

It's funny, but although you were friends with them at school, you lose contact, but when you hear that kind of news you still feel sad. Hearing of people your own age dying is always very sad.
