Apr. 12th, 2007 10:29 amMother Mine emailed me through a bunch of old family pictures she's been scanning - she does a lot of scrap-booking, making up a couple of pages per year. And, damn, the nostalgia, looking through all these old pictures of us all when we were kids! Of no real interest to anyone but me, but I'll post 'em anyway, for posterity. *G*
Baby!Me!

Deb with Baby!Me - she was not quite 3 when I was born

A whole bunch of cousins - I'm the baby, on the lap of the oldest cousin, Huw, who'd be about 12 here. There are eight cousins in this picture - since then another nine have been born, making 17 in total just on my Dad's side of the family, although one of the boys pictured here, Paul (dead centre with that big smile), has since died. And between us there are now four grandchildren on this side of the family, and no doubt more to come.

Deb and me again

Simon has been born!

Two years old - I'm delighted to be holding the baby, but he doesn't seem so thrilled!

Two again, wearing specs out of a Christmas cracker

The three of us

Me!

Bridesmaid age 7

With Dad's oldest sister, Joan, who I was named after. She died just before I turned 9, and I really regret that I never had the chance to know her as an adult

With the little dog, Brandy, who we inherited when Joan died

The three of us again

In the Brecon Beacons

At the zoo

Me and Deb with our cousin Jason, whose dad is Mum's oldest stepbrother - Jason stayed with us a lot around about this time, as his brother was in and out of hospital having a kidney transplant. Funny to think of Jason being a dad of four now!

Me and Simon with our cute new kittens, Sam and Polly. Sam remained with us until he died age 17, but Polly was stolen when she was a year old and we never saw her again

Random Me

Baby Calico! She came into our family as a kitten after Polly disappeared, and 18 years on is still with us

Calico as she is today, old and frail but still cute

Right up to date: Chelsea and me with Calico

And the four siblings, with our little Chess cat

And I think that's enough pictures to be going on with!
In Other News, Deb has had the results of her MRI back at last - the doctor only forgot to open the envelope when it arrived. The good news is that her back condition is unlikely to get much worse, but the bad news is that the reason for that is that it's already about as bad as it gets. The disc is herniated - basically, it's completely gone. And there's a huge white lump around the spot where the vertebrae now rub together, because of the disc not being there to keep them apart - the lump is scar tissue of the bone marrow. All sounds very nasty. She's been put on the waiting list for some procedure that involves zapping the nerve endings to reduce the pain.
Apparently there's some radical new procedure available for disc replacement in the back, but it's a very new technique, and the doctor doesn't want to put Deb forward for it until it's more established. So she's just going to have to continue as she is for now, and hope she doesn't lose mobility. She's still only 33.
I'm having Small this weekend. I'm told she has lots of plans for what we are going to do together. Something to look forward to, then...

Date: 2007-04-12 02:10 pm (UTC)Apparently the waiting list for this nerve-zapping procedure is at least 12 months. The wonderful NHS, eh.

Date: 2007-04-12 02:24 pm (UTC)My sister has suffered with her back for years - she injured it at work about 8/9 years ago, snapped the muscles supporting the spine, and it's been a downward slide ever since. And the NHS being what it is, it takes years to actually get anything done! She's learned to manage, keeps herself in good condition, her doctor is really impressed with how well she keeps her back. But she shouldn't have to wait so long to have anything proper done about it.

Date: 2007-04-12 02:27 pm (UTC)Deb's back condition back been an ongoing situation for years now, and she functions really well, works full time at a demanding job, but she shouldn't have to live in pain the way she does. Hopefully the waiting list for this nerve-zapping procedure will be shorter rather than longer.
