Feb. 9th, 2007 03:53 pm I'm trying to think of something coherent to say. This was an awesome episode, real edge-of-the-seat, what-the-hell-is-going-to-happen-next kind of stuff.
Ohohoh, all the weeks I've sat here screaming "Fingerprints!" at the screen, finally they remember to wipe the place down. I still think it would be safer to maybe invest in some gloves.
Last week when Dean took his eyes off Sam for a minute and returned to find him on the floor, I wondered if maybe he should put a collar and leash on him. At the start of this episode, I thought maybe a homing device would be better. And then it turns out he's got a tracker in the car? Or was that on Sam's phone? If the phone, surely he could have used it before, so I'm guessing the car. Awesome. Oh, and the pseudonym - Dean Mahogoff. That's the same name he used in Playthings, only now I've seen it written down so know how to spell it. We've had Nightshifter since, so he knows the Feds are tracking him - shouldn't changing fake IDs have been one of the first things he did?
I've totally sidetracked myself from the awesome. Where was I? Oh yeah. Awesome was pretty much as far as I got. Shall I say it again? Awesome. Frantic!Dean at the beginning, and then Denial!Dean once he and Sam were re-tracing Sam's steps. And Possessed!Sam giving such a good performance as Freaked!Sam, and then just Evil, and...Evil...and huge, and mean, and...I don't have the words.
Sam shot Dean! Again. Only why he went for the shoulder I don't know, since he looked so satisfied when there was no sign of Dean in the water, like - if it was the kill he was going for, the shoulder probably wasn't the best place to aim for to be sure of it. But anyway, that gave us Hurt!Dean, which the fangirls always enjoy. And it also gave us Nurse!Jo, which - I like Jo so much better when she's just getting on with actually doing stuff instead of bleating about how she wants everyone to think she's grown up. Actions speak louder than words, and all. And I liked that when Dean refused to let her go with him instead of being offended about being protected, she recognised and respected the difference between him and his dad, after Evil!Sam's nasty little story. And got that he is just never going to think of her the way she wants him to.
Poor Dean. He's just...so desperate, throughout this episode. I said after Playthings that if Sam turned he'd have the advantage over Dean, because Dean would hesitate, wanting to save him, but Sam would be evil and therefore wouldn't hesitate, and it looks like I was right. But that's part of what I love so much about Dean, so it's all good.
Is it just me or does Bobby look older? He seems to have aged a lot in the last six months. Oh, but I loved his holy water in the beer trick. Does he spike every drink in the house just in case? Talk about paranoia! But well-founded paranoia, clearly. I love his house. I love that he just has books stacked up randomly all over the floor. Probably more so than ever since what few actual bookshelves he had got smashed when Meg tossed Dean into them last season and I doubt he's fixed them. I love that he's got the Knowledge, and a devil's trap on his ceiling, and random protection charms that he can dole out to those that need them, and that he seems to be one of the few people in the world that the boys can trust, and I love that he figured out how to release Sam by breaking the symbol on his arm. And damn, that looked painful. But so did Dean's shoulder.
I love that Dean would rather drive one-handed than let Sam behind the wheel of his car right now.
I had so much else to say, but it's going to have to wait until I'm more coherent.

Date: 2007-02-10 12:28 am (UTC)However, also on 2nd viewing and this time knowing that Sam was possessed by the Meg!demon, there were several little hints - from possessed!Sam's dialogue, especially when describing Sam's appearance (hee!) to using her preferred execution method for killing the hunter.
I was really worried when Sam turned up at Bobby's place that another of their trusted contacts was going to die, but thankfully not this time. Good thing he's got a few tricks up his sleeve that he hasn't revealed to the boys really. I imagine that he's probably naturally suspicious anyway, but the aborted phone call and suddenly-dead phone line just before Sam arrived should have tipped him off that something wasn't quite right.
Which reminds me - he didn't take long to hear about the other hunter's death, which suggests he probably has a mobile too (useful for his breakdown/recovery business no doubt) or else maybe he fixed the line himself? Oh, and I guess Dean stole a car to get there....

Date: 2007-02-10 10:54 am (UTC)Once you know for sure that Sam is possessed the whole time, there are lots of little tells. But that first viewing, when you don't know, there are all kinds of possible explanations for his behaviour, starting with 'psychotic episode' and continuing from there, and most of the time he really does act like Sam. It's cleverly done - both by the actor and the demon possessing Sam *G*
