the sarah jane adventures
Jan. 1st, 2007 06:05 pmOkay, that was fun. Kids TV, yes, but so much fun. Where Doctor Who tries too hard to straddle the divide between kid and adult friendly, and Torchwood tries too hard to be adult, The Invasion of the Bane was unashamedly for kids and therefore was free to just be itself. Of course, they had to stick with the company line of Sarah having pined for the Doctor all those years until she met him again, but other than that I have no complaints. There was no mawkish, forced sentimentality or romantic complications thrown in there just for the sake of being racy. The characters were endearing and engaging, and the story flowed. Nicely done.
Now, if they could just get Who itself and Torchwood to operate on a similar basis, I'd be well happy.

Date: 2007-01-01 08:59 pm (UTC)Torchwood is, um, definitely for the grown-ups - it's about an earth-based group dealing with aliens on earth and trying to keep them secret. As a show it has a lot more potential than it currently lives up to, but I'm sticking with it - series finale tonight.
