My sister wrote to me, as she told me she was going to, to ask me officially about providing this family member reference for the adoption.

Turns out, I have to write to the adoption agency to give my permission for them to contact me to ask for the reference. Seems a tremendously long-winded way of doing things! So, I've been composing this letter. "I understand that a reference is required for my sister's adoption application. Please do feel free to ask me to provide this reference..."

Madness. But the letter goes in the post today - don't want to waste any time!

I know! Madness. It's all madness. And it is hilarious. But also deadly serious as so much hinges on this ridiculous process.

I remember reading Anne of Green Gables as a kid. As I recall, they just wrote to an orphanage and had a child sent to them by return post in that. Ah, the simplicity of bygone days...
