all or nothing

Some people - some families - get no luck at all.
I posted at the weekend that I was concerned about my friend Molly, as I hadn't heard from her in a while. I managed to get hold of her in the end, and went around there last night to catch up. As a family, they just seem to have one thing after another going wrong for them.
Moll had to stay with her sister longer than she's anticipated as B is going through a pretty hard time at the moment. Her son Nicky is a drug addict; she'd thought, hoped that he was getting himself back on track again - but then he broke into an elderly couple's house and is now back in jail again. This is just the latest in a long, long history of incidents like this and B has disowned him, absolutely at the end of her tether, but is devastated. So Moll had to try to comfort her, or at least just be there for her, because there is no comfort for something like that, as a mother.
Then she got home and learned that her daughter-in-law Kerry has found a lump in her breast. Having had breast cancer herself, she went straight into panic-mode and insisted on paying privately for a consultation to hurry things along. That was yesterday, results will be back next week. Worrying time. Kerry and Steve have three young sons - a 12 year old, and 11 year old twins.
On the bright side, though, Jason's little boy Joseph is doing well at the moment. It is now almost 12 months since his leukaemia was diagnosed. This week they had another big donation from a local business to Joseph's fund raising money for the Children's Hospital.
