Sunday...

The Exchange of Hostages has now taken place, and Small is back home where she belongs. We had a mostly fun weekend - there's always at least one blow up over nothing much. She is highly temperamental! Still, it is always good to hang out with her while she's still young enough to want to.

Followed that up with a kiddies birthday party my cousin threw for two of his kids: Macauley turned eight last week and Jason Junior will be one next week. Therefore, loud, boppy music and what felt like dozens of kiddies running around screeching and dancing. Fun. Small, of course, threw a fit about the noise levels, as she gets tinnitus and finds loudness and large echoey halls hard to cope with. She spent most of the party outside gas-bagging with another cousin, Annalise (who isn't actually related to us, but is related to our cousins on the other side, if that makes sense). I spent the party alternating between playing with and feeding Baby JJ, and playing with his older sister Maraid, who will be five in December. Funny to think of Jason having three kids, and being so settled. He and Emma are now talking about getting married next year. It was going to be last year, but they had the baby instead...

My cousin Gavin was also there, in his role as uncle to the three children. He was looking very wobbly when it was time to go - but of course, he actually uses a wheelchair now most of the time. The damage caused by a lifetime of kidney dialysis and two failed transplants, I'm afraid. But since he wasn't expected to live six months and is now almost 27, he's done well. Every day with Gavin is a miracle, really.

After that, I went around to church for the evening meeting. Joyce, whose husband Mike died so suddenly recently, was there for the first time since the funeral, and her sister Sheila - who used to sing duets with Mike - was brave enough to stand up and sing alone a piece she and Mike had been preparing to sing together. 'Twas all very emotional.

Hey-ho - work tomorrow.

LOL @ exchange of hostages! What did you get for returning her? (Apart from peace and quiet!).

What did I get...the expectation of same next weekend, more than likely.

Now what I'd like is my eardrums back after the party!

You should demand a better ransom, but perhaps your parents would just let you keeop her longer! ;)
