So, Wales have remembered how to win just in time for the qualifying campaign to be over. At least we ended on a high note - although it will have faded, no doubt, by the time we have to play our next competetive match.

Pre-match and half-time entertainment was provided by Elin Fflur. Just a shame they couldn't have closed the roof and kept her dry! Given how torrential the rain had been at times in the last few days, I was surprised to see that the roof was open, but conditions had eased by then and the light rain that fell throughout the game wasn't enough to cause any problems to the players.

'Twas a good game. The Millennium Stadium was only at about half capacity, but that was hardly surprising, given that, in terms of the qualifying group, this game was entirely meaningless for both teams. We were merely playing for pride. And pride we felt aplenty as Ryan Giggs scored from a stunning free kick before five minutes were up. Having later seen a shot rebound off the foot of the upright, he then added a second within the first few minutes of the second half, and that about sewed up the game. Apart from the small matter of the last 40 minutes or so, of course.

I've been taking Small to all home games for about three years now. She wouldn't dream of watching a game on TV, but loves going along to the stadium and soaking up the atmosphere. And now that she's taking football after school, she understands the rules a bit better, as well. Alas, her favourite player - Robert Earnshaw - didn't make it onto the pitch last night. Her favourite, I should note, quite simply because he does 'flip-overs'. Such things are of vital importance when you are only nine years old.

After the game, I took her home and spent the night at my parents' house, sleeping in Small's 'groovy chick' bed while she went in with my mum. I don't know how she manages to sleep in that bed with all that junk scattered around it and about five books under the pillow!

Today - stiff and sleepy, but happy.
