drama, drama and still no tea!
Apr. 11th, 2012 10:42 amFun and games at work today. Some students hacked into the system overnight and force-changed all the passwords - staff and students. That's about 26,000 accounts rended inaccessible. Help desk are going nuts. They have to fix every single account manually, individually. All because some bored little IT geek thought it would be fun to test his hacking skills against our systems. Major business continuity incident, ahoy.
Also this morning, some of our chaps arrived in work to find that the ceiling in their office had collapsed. They are up in the attic and it looks like a chunk of masonry has fallen away from the inside of the roof and gone straight through the false ceiling onto the desks below, right on top of someone's PC - thank goodness they weren't there at the time! But it didn't occur to the idiots to vacate the office. They had the light on right next to this gaping hole in the ceiling, heedless of possible damage to the wiring, they kept slamming the door and bringing more dust and rubble down with the vibrations - this is an old building, so there could be asbestos in that dust! Very intelligent guys, but no brains. We've cleared them all out now.
And all this before 9.30am! And the kitchen is still out of use, so no soothing cups of tea, even!
Let's hope nothing else happens this week...
Edit: spoke too soon. We had a delivery of new furniture for the common room just before lunch, and the delivery truck managed to demolish half the front wall! Fingers and toes crossed that's the last disaster of the day.
