The holiday story continues...
Okay, so following on from the lovely day at Tenby, the rest of the holiday was mostly kind of a downhill spiral. On the Tuesday, Mum and I went to Aunty Lel's flat to clean it thoroughly ready for her to come home from hospital, while the rest of the family headed up to Big Pit for a trip down a coal mine. They never made it into the mine, however, as Deb tripped in the cark park and sprained her ankle quite badly.
Wednesday - Lel came out of hospital. I spent almost the entire day at the flat - met Lel when the ambulance dropped her off and helped her get settled and unpacked; met a chap to install her emergency alarm, met another chap to install her bath chair, met the physio team to discuss her rehab programme, met the reablement team to discuss her care package, phoned the hospital to arrange a new nebuliser when she spilled tea all over hers, fielded phone calls from her neurotic daughter in London, cleaned up when she was sick... In the evening I left Lel alone for a couple of hours as we were going out for a family meal with my Nan and cousin Gavin. Then it was back to Lel's to spend the night on her sofa.
Thursday - still at Lel's flat. Helped her get up and about, first morning at home after almost 5 months in hospital. She's doing really well - the physios and carers are really pleased at how independent she already is and hope to build her up to full independence again in time. But for now she is still very frail. Late morning, I left her alone to go with Mum and Dad up to the Wenallt, which is the Cardiff side of Caerphilly Mountain - they'd booked a riding lesson for the three teenagers at the Briwnant Riding Centre there.

You can not only see clear across the whole city from that point, you can also see clear across the Bristol Channel into Somerset! I could pick out the hospital, the Millennium Stadium, the barrage, Penarth Head, Flatholm and Steepholm...
Oh yeah, and the kids had a wonderful time riding, as well

In the afternoon, we'd planned a trip down to Cardiff Bay as Chelsea was keen to have a ride on the fast boat...but just as we were about to leave, a massive thunder storm broke. When the torrential rain finally stopped, we took our trip down to the bay, but by then the boats had already stopped running for the day. It's got to be said, though: the bay was looking all kinds of dramatic, post-thunder storm!

Then it was back to Lel's for me, for a second night on the sofa.
Friday was a bit of a nothing day, really - I was at Lel's all morning, rejoined the rest of the family for lunch, but we didn't really do anything or go anywhere, as it kept raining.
Saturday I took the two girls into town for some girlie shopping in the morning, then in the afternoon we returned to Cardiff Bay for the 'Fish 'n' Ships' Harbour Festival. It was lovely and sunny - albeit a bit windy - after the rain and storms of previous days. There were carnival rides and boats and tall ships and a market (selling yummy food and pretty things) and an RNLI display team - plus a flying demonstration from Team Osprey!

While Mum and Deb and Ray and Jamie went to get ice cream, myself, Dad, Chelsea and Shanei went for a trip around the bay on the little open boat Daffodil - apologies for the wonkiness of these pictures, but the wind made the bay rather choppy that afternoon, so it was hard to keep the camera straight!

Then while browsing the market, we encountered this chap!

Yes, that's a civic-minded Dalek collecting money for charity - and shooting anyone who didn't donate!
Margam and Weston-super-Mare coming soon...
