why even bother getting out of bed?
Sep. 14th, 2010 03:49 pmApparently this is going to be one of those weeks. I mean, it's only Tuesday and already it's been disaster after disaster!
Monday: get into work to find that we had suffered a catastrophic network failure over the weekend. Massively catastrophic - we lost the network across half the university, including SIMS (student information management system), and we're into the major Enrolment session now. Nightmare! Took until this afternoon to resolve the problem, and until then we all just had to limp along as best we could. Methinks my Enrolment Review Group meeting next week could be very interesting, as the tech types dissect what happened and how to avoid it happening at such a critical time ever again.
Tuesday: stop at a cashpoint on my way to work, since I only have about 50p in my purse. This turns out to be a mistake, as the cashpoint promptly swallows my card for absolutely no reason at all. Perfect. Just what I need. So, I get into work and immediately have to phone the bank to cancel my card and order a new one, which may not arrive before the middle of next week. Then had to go into the branch at lunchtime to withdraw enough cash over the counter to tide me over till the new card arrives - especially since I've got
sherrilina arriving for a visit on Monday, and will need funds for entertaining.
And all this on top of the dead dishwasher last week. So what's going to go wrong tomorrow, I wonder!
