Nudity! Nudity on the BBC!

And...they blew up Cardiff Bay!!! Darn, I was going to take [livejournal.com profile] galathea_snb and [livejournal.com profile] nikkimisplaced there next week. *G*

Quite impressed with the effects, btw - they did a good job of making it look like the Oval Basin really had been reduced to a smouldering crater. But what happened to all that gear Team Torchwood keep in the Hub? Their equipment, the corpses they keep on ice - the Weevils they usually have in custody? How can they possibly rebuild, seeing as how they have lost their resident genius and all? That's assuming, of course, that they are eventually allowed to rebuild, regain their funding, etc.

Yikes.

You know, as much as the 'Captain Jack cannot die' thing has always annoyed me, it was interesting to explore what that actually means, in terms of the problems it causes when you need to execute the man. The ageless thing is always a pretty stupid concept for any TV show, though, really - it imposes an automatic expiry date on the show if you have a character who never ages played by an actor who totally does!

Ianto dropping the concrete block over the side of a cliff to get Jack out was pretty cool, though!

I'm loving the energy of this story and how well the momentum is being maintained so far, interweaving the conflicting crises, the inter-agency governmental intrigue and mysterious imminent alien onslaught. I'm loving the characters, new and old - can't help but feel for the put-upon and permanently worried Frobisher, even as he gets his hands dirty giving unspeakable orders, and Lois is great. Perfect Torchwood material - as Gwen totally recognised. Rhys has been fab for quite some time now, and continues to be so, and as for Ianto's family...they are so much like so many families I know, it's crazy! Fantastic.

Dekker (who was once a guest agent in the Professionals - thanks to whoever it was pointed that out! Once I knew who he'd been I could so see it!) is way creepy. Very, very.

And...ooooooh. Frobisher (Peter Calpaldi) was the Angel Islington in Neverwhere. I knew I knew him from somewhere!

Why couldn't this show have always been like this?
