Turns out, temping at Legal & General involves seven full days of training. It's dry as the Sahara, but comprehensible, at least so far. And involves free food, at least for the first three days while we're at St Peter's Hall. Nice food, too. I feel very well fed today. Welcome to financial services.

So, so far so good. The money is lousy - pretty much a mere half of the income I had a year ago - but better than the job centre. It's work. I'll learn a lot about a new sector, and it'll keep me going until I get back on my feet. Just have to work around the complications inherent in getting time to attend any interviews that crop up (like the one I know I have in a couple of weeks' time) as they seem pretty strict.

There are ten of us brand new temps all training together at the moment. One of them is a 19-year-old lad who has already spent three years in the army, including a stint on bomb disposal in Iraq. He reckons that bomb disposal isn't as dramatic as it sounds. Apparently, all they do is pick the bomb up (in their hands) move it to a safe location, and blow it up themselves. That sounds dramatic enough to me!
