farewell, Giggsy
Jun. 2nd, 2007 06:25 pmHaving Small staying over for weekends is rather more challenging these days, since she's been going to the Enuresis Clinic. She's always had a bit of a problem with wetting, and hasn't grown out of it, and now an underdeveloped bladder has been diagnosed and is being treated. This treatment involves trying to stretch the bladder by making her drink more, but the trouble with that is that the nerves in her bladder aren't used to sending the appropriate signals to the brain when it is full, so the end result is that the wetting is getting a lot worse before (hopefully!) getting better.
And my bed settee does not dry out that easily. It's fun.
Oh, but on Friday night while walking to the shop we saw a squirrel running around looking completely lost, a long way from any safe trees - it kept jumping at shop windows and being surprised when it found glass cutting it off from potential safe hideouts in there! We were a bit worried about it, but it finally managed to find its way into a garden where it at least wasn't in any danger of being run over.
Then this afternoon I took Small to the 0-0 draw between Wales and the Czech Republic at the Millennium Stadium this afternoon, Ryan Giggs' last game for Wales. That makes me feel really old - I remember his first game, when he was just 17 years old!

Maybe not the best picture ever, but the battery in my camera died after only a couple of snaps early on. We were in the second row down in the family enclosure, right on the halfway line, so had an excellent view. Apart from the Sky Sports cameraman right in front of us, swivelling around to cover all the action. The game itself was pretty mellow and laid-back - for all the world as if both teams and both sets of fans had just decided to come for an afternoon out, rather than it being a qualifying game for a major tournament!
Giggs really wanted to score in his final game, he really did - it shone through - but although he came close more than once, hitting the bar from a free kick in the second half, alas it wasn't to be. Wales definitely had more shots at goal than the Czechs did, but neither side managed to break the deadlock.
All in all a really good day. Farewell to Giggsy - we'll miss you!
