llywelaOkay, so I'm still meeping over the Supernatural season finale – and I'd like to thank ![[livejournal.com profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/external/lj-userinfo.gif)
siluria for the loan of the word 'meeping', which completely sums up my reaction. So here is my final episode recap and header of the season.
Excerpt:
Dean jumps into the car and starts driving, skidding all over the road, out of control, and viewers get scared because it is clear that he's about to do something monumentally stupid. Dean has dedicated his entire life to trying to keep his family safe, never had any plans or grand ambitions for himself beyond that. So, take his family away from him and this raw desperation is the inevitable result, because he has absolutely no idea who he is without them, no idea how to let go of that purpose that has driven him almost his entire life. Two episodes ago he reaffirmed his belief in hunting as a career, as a lifestyle choice, but it was still a decision that weighed heavily on him. He's lost the satisfaction he used to gain from helping other people, and he doesn't know how to be alone.
Sam's death is too fresh, too raw, too recent for Dean to be able to think anywhere near straight. The only thing he knows right now is his own pain and his need to put things right. He's out of control and he's desperate, and he knows that what he's about to do is wrong on just about every level, but he's past the point of caring, and he's always applied different standards to Sam than to himself.
