Apr. 23rd, 2009 07:33 amSo, yesterday was a strange sort of day, in the end.
1. Woke up to the news that my uncle had died - big thank yous and hugs to everyone who left their condolences in that post. Sorry for not replying individually. Death certificate will be issued today, and after that funeral arrangements can be made. Hopefully not next Thursday, because that's his grandson's 4th birthday, and Luca deserves to enjoy his day as much as possible, under the circumstances.
2. Work was a bit weird. Had a lot on, but the day was very broken up by various activities listed below, and what with that and the other it was hard to concentrate.
3. Took part in an eye shape study up at the school of Optometry in the morning - someone's post-grad research. Spent an hour having my eyes scanned by various machines, and then had a mold taken of my right eye, which was very weird. Anaesthetic eye drops first, and then the girl put this liquid silicone/rubber stuff into an eye cup thingy which was then placed against my eyeball, under the lids, and held there for three minutes while it set. Very, very weird - it didn't hurt at all, which surprised me because I'm usually very squicky about anything in my eyes. The anaesthetic did its job. It just felt tremendously weird. And blind! Having it pulled off was a bit less pleasant - very odd sensation! But at the end of the day it was £30 for an hour of my time - straight into my moving house fund.
4. Then spent a couple of hours handing out leaflets at the University Open Day in the afternoon. Very soon remembered how much I dislike teenagers en masse. Then again, could say the same thing about people in general en masse. It was fun spotting how many were the absolute image of their parents, though. Alas, there weren't that many really good freebies on offer in the Main Building where I was - should have been over at the Students' Union! In the room next to ours was a photography gallery, which included a stunning shot of the Helix Nebula taken by one of the telescopes here at the university, on canvas. It looked fantastic and I quite fancied pinching it, but suspected someone would probably notice if I walked out with it under my arm!
5. Ended up very headachey and left work early after all that, so went home and watched the first two episodes of Harper's Island, CBS's new 13-part murder mystery series. Off to a strong start - looking forward to seeing how the story unfolds from here.
6. This morning awoke to the news that my Supernatural season 4 Part 1 DVD has posted and will be with me in 3-5 days. Yay! That cheered me up slightly.
