Evolution or regression?
Jul. 11th, 2007 09:08 amEver seen those evolutionary graphics that claim to chart mankind's development from gorilla-like cavemen into upright and sophisticated modern types? They usually look a bit like this:

Ever wondered which direction we are meant to be going? This morning I walked into work behind a teenage lad, who I presume is attending one of the Gateway to Work projects that are run in the building. Well, honestly - this lad seemed to have regressed several stages in that evolutionary graph! He wasn't walking so much as lumbering: shoulders slumped, arms hanging, swinging his entire body as he walked, and not in a way that spoke of disability, but in a way that screamed 'caveman!' Like he'd never been taught to stand up straight. And he was spitting constantly as he walked, every few seconds. Disgusting. All I could think was: "if this is the future of mankind, God help us all!"
