The wall is built. The rubble is gone. The patio has been repaired. The lane door has been replaced, and they've even left a gap for hedgehogs at the bottom like I asked. Folks, I think the builders might actually be finished! Now all I have to do is replant half the garden, but that'll be a job for the end of next week, when I have a few days off work.

And then I'll turn my attention to the lawn, but that will be a longer term project!





(I feel I should add for the record that that is not my cat at the bottom of the 3rd picture there. That is Molly, who lives next door but spends a lot of time in my garden because she hates the puppy her family adopted last summer!)

I'm glad you've finally got it fixed! I know you lost plants, but I'm really impressed by how beautiful and blooming your garden still is.

If you wanted, this would be a nice opportunity to replace the lawn with wildflower meadow, which is very pretty and attracts a lot of insects. We had a wildflower meadow for a while, and they are hard to maintain, but very nice to look at! A lot of wildflowers are annuals, so you could take a year off from having a lawn and sew wildflowers, before going back to grass -- kind of the best of both worlds.

Thanks! I've been impressed myself by how much has survived and thrived despite the trauma, although I did lose a few as well.

*whispers* Taking the opportunity to create a bit of a wildflower meadow is, in fact, the main thrust of my lawn recovery plan. I was working toward it even before the wall came down - last year the lawn was more clover than grass, and I loved it (so did the bees). So having all that bare earth where grass used to be...well, let's just say I have my yellow rattle and wildflower seed mix at the ready...;)

But I do need to repair the flower bed first, and get what's left of the grass cut, which means first raking out the worst of the remaining stone...lots to do!

(I tried to talk my neighbour into re-wilding as well, when he asked for advice about his lawn. He wasn't convinced, but I did at least talk him out of going over to artificial grass!)

I'm glad it's all done now; it looks like a solid job as well. I think a wildflower lawn is a fab idea; and who doesn't love a visiting cat? :)
