keeping faith
Dec. 11th, 2017 08:59 amTwo posts in a handful of days! I'm excelling myself here, by recent standards.
I've been meaning to post about this for a while, because I know some of the peeps on my flist really enjoyed Hinterland/Y Gwyll, so I wanted to give a heads up about the latest S4C drama of that ilk.
Un Bore Mercher is currently airing on S4C, we just had episode five last night, and the English/bilingual version should pop up sometime in the New Year on BBC Wales (and then sometime after that again on BBC4) under the name Keeping Faith, so keep a look out for it.
Un Bore Mercher/Keeping Faith stars Eve Myles as Faith Howells - she actually learned to speak Welsh fluently especially for this role. Solicitor, wife and mother, partner in her husband's family law firm, Faith seems to have it all...until her husband Evan sets off for work one morning and never arrives. With her seemingly perfect life crumbling into dust, Faith begins to realise how little she knew the man she has shared her life with for the last ten years.
I've been following the show on S4C and am really enjoying it - so many twists and turns, I honestly can't predict how it will end! Fans of Hinterland/Y Gwyll (and before that, Baker Boys) will spot a lot of familiar faces (the Welsh TV industry really isn't very big), and while Eve Myles can be a bit hit or miss for me, I'm enjoying her performance here. Faith feels very real, with all her flaws and foibles, as she experiences this rollercoaster of emotion. I'm also loving how female-led the show is - so many women in this, with complex interpersonal relationships.
So, if you're interested, keep a look out for Keeping Faith after Christmas!

Date: 2017-12-12 10:24 am (UTC)It is coastal. Faith and Evan have a boat, and we've spent a fair bit of time on the beach over the first five episodes. Looks more like Carmarthenshire than Ceredigion to me, though, so prob not the area around Aberystwyth, alas. :p Although I don't actually know where it was filmed, tbh, so might be completely wrong!
