In work today we heard that our colleague John G passed away in hospice over the weekend, and it wasn't a surprise, we've been waiting for it since Christmas, he's lasted a lot longer than expected, but even so, damn. I liked John. He was no older than me. And he'd fought and conquered that dragon once already, only for it to take him down in the end.
So let's have some pretty pics to cheer me up, starting with my week off work earlier this month, already a fast-receding memory...
I already posted about taking Chelsea and Layla for a day at St Fagans. We also spent a day hanging out in the sunshine at Cardiff Bay, walked across the Barrage and then took Layla for her first proper boat ride, catching the acquabus back across to the Marina.

That same evening, the Other Half and I took Chelsea up into the Brecon Beacons to watch the sun set over the mountains. In the end it was a bit cloudy for a really good sunset, but we had fun anyway, parking up near the entrance to an old limestone quarry, which we had great fun climbing all over.

Then on the Friday I took Layla-May swimming for the very first time, and she loved it, she absolutely loved it.

Our girl is growing big and strong. At eight months, she's as tall and sturdy as a 12-month-old - out-growing all her clothes faster than she can wear them! She's not much interested in crawling, desperate rather to walk (she just needs to get her balance and she's away, there'll be no stopping her), no teeth yet and not much hair, but she has five words already: hiya, hello, boo, up and no!
Chelsea is going through a rough patch at the moment, her autism and a touch of post-natal depression combining to send her spiralling, emotionally - and when Chelsea is struggles emotionally, she takes it out on everyone around her. She had a particularly bad meltdown that evening, the Friday, but pulled around in time to enjoy her birthday the next day: 20 years old, how did that happen? It seems like only yesterday she was a wee little baby! We spent her birthday afternoon at Barry Island, where we were slightly surprised to find the beach taken over by the Rainbow Run, raising money for Tŷ Hafan, the children's hospice. Once the runners and clouds of powder paint had cleared the beach, we were finally able to take Layla down for her very first experience of sand.

After some time on the beach, Chelsea was keen to go on the rides in the funfair, so we went and bought a stash of tokens, and went to our first ride, and got on and were locked in our seats, and at that moment the heavens opened, and I thought 'surely the guy will let us off', but no, he just left us there and turned the ride on and retreated to his booth and just watched us going round and round and up and down in torrential rain! Soaked to the skin!
And finally, I've renewed my Castle Key, which means I can spend my lunch hours wandering around the castle, which is always so pretty in the sun!

Date: 2016-05-17 11:57 pm (UTC)Cardiff looks so beautiful in all that blue sky! I shall be up your way tomorrow, just in time for rain, by the sound of things, but never mind - there's always Doctor Who... *g* I know you're probably too busy these days for short-notice visits, but if you fancy grabbing a coffee or something let me know! I'm staying Wednesday and Thursday nights, before I head off to Newport (the coastal one, not the other one *g*)
Fabulous timing for your pics - I feel holiday-ish just looking at them! *g*
