So we're halfway through the series on Poldark, and watching this last episode I finally managed to let go of the 1975 adaptation and love this version completely for its own sake. Perhaps it was the slight switch in focus that did it - up till now, we've been focused intently on Ross's story, but episode four was more Demelza's story and Eleanor Tomlinson won me over completely. Such a lovely episode! And I know everything that's to come, but none of that diminishes this little oasis of happiness mid-season in the slightest.

Also, female friendships for the win. Demelza and Verity were adorable, and they weren't the only ones.

Aaaand, season two of The Musketeers came to an end last week. It was patchier than season one - and I was mostly frustrated with Marc Warren's Rochefort as the villain; I know he can be fantastic, so his permanently one-note performance was disappointing in its lack of nuance - but I enjoyed the season anyway, taken overall. Felt really bad for poor Marguerite, chewed up and spat out by the plot - and Dr Lemay, the most genuinely nice character we've seen on the show. The season's had its ups and downs, but I loved how it ended on a note of 'the adventure continues', to lead us into season three - which is too far away!

I enjoyed Poldark last night too, it seemed a much more complete, or rounded episode, somehow - as if it were rushing through the story less. And still beautifully filmed!

I know what you mean. It was less 'story of the week' highlighting a chosen sub-plot, and more fluid, ongoing story with all the sub-plots moving forward organically, if that makes sense. I feel like it's getting into its stride now.

I was totally won over by last night's Poldark. I'm rooting for all the characters, even poor old Francis (well, except maybe the Warleggans *g*) The Demelza storyline was really nicely done and I was with her all the way on her transition from serving maid to wife and part of local (and Ross's) society. And yes! to her friendship with Verity :) Pleased too to have caught a glimpse of the arrival of Dr. Enys on the "next time" clip.

Poor Marguerite! I hate what happened to her in Musketeers. The one thing I most wanted from that last ep (which I enjoyed quite a lot overall) was a smidgeon of obvious remorse from Aramis for his treatment of her. Perhaps his nervously flickering eyelid (quite pretty I have to say) when she was 'testifying' was supposed to be it. Not enough! Looking forward to more though...

I'm still loving Poldark, but I suspect moreso because I don't have any preconceptions on what characters should be like or what should happen :)

I shall miss the Musketeers. I was disappointed that Constance didn't strike the final blow to Rochefort after what he did to Lemay in front of her. I felt that Aramis's reaction to Marguerite had more to do with trying not to acknowledge or give credence to her accusations rather than lack of remorse but she did get a raw deal throughout.
